... as I simply couldn't get up early enough to go to Lidl before our talkative chiropodist lady would arrive. Even so, I had only 5 and a half hour of sleep - I just can't operate on less. *sigh*

Anyway, she came, talked us to death, did our feet, and while she was working on Mum, I managed to prepare all remaining toilet rolls to be turned into miniature egg baskets, preferably soon. I still have to actually make them, paint them, let them dry and deliver them at the last choir practice before Easter. Theoretically. If I don't manage, the girls will get them as a belated Easter gift.

When the talkative lady left, I went to Lidl, getting rid of the selective rubbish on my way. Grocery shopping was done within the hour, then we ate leftover soup with the jam-filled donuts I bought for lunch, we watched some telly with half an eye we could still keep open - then fell over and slept. We were both mentally drained.

And that was, basically, our day, with some more telly watching added. I'll have to prepare as much as possible for the last baking round tomorrow, like measuring the dry ingredients, cubing the butter and the likes, because tomorrow is also laundry day, so a lot will be going on.

And no, I won't add my mantra concerning housework. Not now. You folks need a break from my whining. *g*

Why do you get so little sleep lately?

I haven't got enough sleep since Mum's accident. We're both night owls; she rarely goes to bed before 11.30pm, and I usually stay up for another hour that's more or less mine. This is the time when I discover little things that need to be righted — usually just five minutes before I was planning to go to bed. It's usually 1am when I finally go to sleep; yesterday I had to prepare things for the baking, so it was actually 2am. And I just have to get up at 8am at the latest, if I want to get things done in time. Yesterday we expected the chiropodist lady, so we got up an hour earlier. Tomorrow we'll get up an hour earlier again, so that Mum can watch Mass on TV.

I try to catch up with my sleep in the afternoon when I can, but it isn't always possible.

I switched from reading in bed until midnight to lights off at half past ten, and it worked. There will be days when sleep will avoid me (usually combined with a cold), but I am up now way earlier. Of course, you have mum duties, and I know from experience that people over eighty will need less sleep during night and more during day, which is hard to combine with a healthy lifestyle!

I've always been a night owl, but before Mum's accident I could afford to sleep in till 9am or later if I wanted/needed. Having worked in the afternoon shift in the last decade of my so-called career only made this tendency worse. Only that now I have to get up at 8am — or even 7am — on some days, whether I like it or not.

Ouch, hope you can get caught up on your sleep and your baking goes well tomorrow.
