I've done the second half of the cleaning, which lasted all morning. Then I made two more lavender sachets and - instead of taking a nap like any sensible person - re-read an old Torchwood fanfic in the afternoon. There was some TV watching (half asleep), and I sent a very apologetic mail to my goddaughter, since I forgot about her birthday that was a week ago. *is ashamed*

I think I've deserved to do some comfort baking tomorrow. These cookies are on the baking plan. My Granny used to make them (with jam filling, not with chocolate), but I never found the actual recipe in any of her hand-written baking books. I'm very happy to have found this YouTube video and will give the cookies a try.

Indeed! It is a fairly good Torchwood story, set after the death of Tosh and Owen. It shows Jack's attempts to hire new people for TW3.

I fondly remember my mum's jam tarts. She used to make them with any left over pastry from other baking projects, because we always had jam in the house. What a sugar rush eating one of those was. But so nice.

Is there a recipe for those biscuits as well or do you have to watch 17 minutes of video? I found it a bit ... boring!

Only the ingredients are listed under the video, but I can summarize it for you:

1) creaming the butter;
2) stirring in the egg yolks;
3) adding the vanilla sugar and sugar;
4) folding in the flour;
5) kneading the dough;
6) rolling out the dough between two layers of baking paper;
7) cutting out the cookies;
8) chilling them in the fridge for 10-15 minutes;
9) putting a piece of chocolate on each (I used home-made apricot jam instead);
10) beating the egg whites with the icing sugar;
11) covering the chocolate pieces (jam, in my case) with the meringue;
12) baking.

No temperature or time was given. I baked them on the lowest possible temperature (about 120°C as my oven goes), for an hour and a half. The first batch came out earlier and the meringue wasn't properly crispy, so I lowered the temperature to the absolute minimum and increased the baking time.

Are they worth the effort?

In my opinion — and in Mum's as well — definitely. It isn't really that much effort, I was done in what, an hour and a quarter? And while they were baking, I did other things.

This baking lady has a penchant for theatrics! But the cookies must be nice!
