I've finished my girl doll, and the results are disastrous. It isn't just quirky like the boy one was, it's downright ugly and bizarre. I'm very disappointed; I've worked on this doll for weeks, and yesterday I still thought it would turn out... acceptable, at the very least, but when I put it together today I saw that it was horrible. Simply horrible. The only cute features are its shoes, but those aren't enough to save it. If you're really brave (or suicidally curious) you can take a look at it here.

That is it. I won't ever make a doll again, unless I get a pattern that actually works. Clearly, I don't have the skill to make up a pattern on my own. Of course, the fact that I've sewn on the various body parts instead of using a hot glue gun like the original poster on YouTube only made things worse. But I wanted a doll that was child-safe. I didn't know the sewing would lead to a misshapen one, at least with this (badly reverse-engineered) pattern.

Anyway, that took up nearly all the me-time today, and for what? I did a tiny bit of writing on my private smutty piece (it's like comfort food, only for the troubled mind), did a bit of transcribing for EMV II, talked to two friends on the phone and watched some telly with Mum - and that was basically it. We didn't even have to cook, and yet the whole day went down the toilet due to the doll disaster.

Tomorrow I'll have to bake something to overcome my melancholy.

I was brave and took a look and ... given how beautifully your projects usually turn out, I can understand why you're disappointed. *hugs* I'm sorry it didn't work out.

Writing that helps you feel better is an awesome coping mechanism!!!

It's so annoying! It really looked fairly well until the last day...

It's so disheartening when something just doesn't work. I seem to remember using buttons inside the limbs to attach arms and legs when I made dolls many years ago, but I can't remember the exact procedure now. Maybe making the lips slightly darker will help and making the dress more 'triangular' in shape? That said, I understand the urge to drop it in the bin if you don't like it. Many a three quarters finished garment has ended up there in my house.

I don't have the heart to drop it in the bin after all that work. Perhaps I'll find a child small enough who only cares that it's soft and huggable...

I'm sorry you're disappointed with your work.
I wouldn't bin it but maybe ... rework the head?

Nah, removing the head would destroy the already wobbly neck completely. I won't bin it, either, but it's disappointing anyway.

Not wonky at all- I´d only rework the dress by adding short sleeves. And maybe do the nose and mouth the way you did with Lolek...

Ironically enough, the head was the best feature — until I sew it on. That process totally pulled it out of shape. :((

I think, too, that re-doing the mouth and nose would help — if it was possible to make the mouth a little darker and the nose a bit more 3D, I think a little girl might be happy to get her as a gift.
