Better now
Jan. 16th, 2025 09:27 pmAs I mentioned in the comments to yesterday's entry, Mum is up and hobbling again. She managed to get to the loo with the help of her walking frame and did a great deal of rearranging the knick-knacks, so that the cleaning lady can work properly tomorrow. We'll still use the console for the night, but during the day she's pretty much back to her usual mobility - well, almost. She's a great deal more cautious now, and I'm still a bit nervous, but we manage.
I think the knee suffered from the visit of the chiropodist three days ago. People just don't seem to understand that a leg with ligament damage can't be moved the same way a healthy one can. Add to that the appointment with the physiotherapist a day later, which also meant some energetic moving of the leg, and we had the frightening results yesterday. Or so I hope that was the actual problem, since she doesn't seem to have any complaints now. Nothing above the standard ones, that is, but with those we both have learned to live.
It was a quiet day in which we tried to recover from our fright and from the fact that neither of us had much sleep last night. I finally made the Topfenknödel and Mum clearly has her appetite back. I'll keep making light meals, as probably the sausages etc. on Monday and Friday were too heavy for her stomach. They weren't fatty, but a (nearly) 93-year-old without a gall bladder can't stomach as much as me, for example. We hadn't had the things for years, and she loves them, but clearly, we'll have to strike them from the menu.
Not much else was done. I knitted about another centimetre on the rag doll's scarf, and solved half a crossword puzzle, but didn't have the strength for anything else, after having rearranged the entire flat for tomorrow's cleaning frenzy. I tried to take an extended nap in the afternoon, but was too tired to actually fall asleep for longer than half an hour, so I gave up on it. H. and Mum's friends called to ask how she's doing, which was nice, and I talked to my friend Eenie on the phone.
Tomorrow we'll have an early start as the cleaning lady is supposed to show up at 8am. We'll see (and hope that she does).

I hope you will have the time to recover and treat yourself to something nice as a breather.
