Biting into the sour apple

... as the Germans say. Meaning: to do something that isn't pleasant but necessary. In that spirit, I've started another rag doll today, this time making sure it will be a girl one. The reason behind it is that my friend Evie likes to sing a particular song to her grandchildren, one featuring a tiny little girl with a tiny little doll, and it's that doll I'm trying to make. The boy doll will find his home eventually, too. There are a great many families with small children around me, both friends and family, I could make dolls for years and not run out of recipients.

Other than that, I cooked lunch and we watched telly, and that was basically the day. Aside from my young friend/ex-colleague Alex calling in the afternoon, which was a delight. She's such a funny one, and such a faithful soul, too!

Alas, the quiet days are coming to an end, as we'll be falling back into routine in the new year. Lots of things I've postponed saying I'll deal with them in the new year won't be avoidably any longer. *sigh*

How did the year pass by so quickly? The years are getting shorter as I get older.

Isn't that so? I find it extremely unpleasant — especially as I had to give up everything I planned for my retirement.

I hope your New Year isn't too unpleasant. I like to nibble around the edges of nasty projects first. As for the doll faces...I found that eyelashes and a more rounded mouth seems to work to make them look more female. (Yes, I made a few many years ago. Is there any craft project I haven't tried?)

I wouldn't know. Is there? *g* I'm all for trying out new things myself, and given my current lifestyle those things have to be activities I can do alone, closed into the flat.
