Gnome prototype
Sep. 7th, 2024 07:05 pmAs you can see, it can do with some improvement. These things never turn out so perfect as they look on the lid of the DIY kits, and the instructions are usually rubbish. But the little guy is quite pretty, IMO. I'll have to do something about its arms and legs, and the body ought to be less flat, but other than that...

It also inspired me to the beginning of a children's tale about tiny forest creatures. I'll share what's already there behind the cut.
Have you ever heard of tree gnomes? No? Well, that's not really surprising, albeit a little sad. So, let me tell you about these wondrous little forest dwellers.
Tree gnomes are rare and magical creatures. So rare and magical indeed, that people only get to see them once in a hundred year... if they are very lucky. Also, tree gnomes only show themselves to children; never to grown-ups. Which is why most grown-ups don't believe in them, unless they have met one in their childhood.
Like their neighbours, the earth-wights and the moss-wives, the tree gnomes prefer the cooler, moister areas of the forest; and they only come forth in the evening, when the heat isn't so high anymore. Drying out would be fatal for them, you see.
While earth-wights grow inside of mushrooms and moss-wives, as their name reveals, grow out from moss, tree gnomes are born on pine trees and on pine trees they spend their entire life. When A pine cone doesn't fall before the onset of winter, and neither does it dry out, remaining instead fresh and green, then from that pine cone a tree gnome will be born after a while. When frost touches the forest for the first time, the pine cone opens, and the tree gnome climbs out of it, like a baby bird from the egg.
This doesn't happen very often, of course, and that is why tree gnomes are so rare and magical.
Other than these creative outlets (and a bit of fanfic writing), I also did some grocery shopping. Originally I planned to go to Remo (the discounter for craft supplies) afterwards, but the battle at Lidl was long and exhausting and temperatures had climbed into the 30s again, so I gave up the idea. I think I'll go on Monday instead, when it's supposed to rain all day but at least we'll be down to 23 degrees or so. *fingers crossed* I'll have to go to the official place again, to hopefully deal with Mum's issues, and on my way back I will simply stay in the tram for another 5 stops. It should be doable.
So, that was it for today, we're still suffering from the heat, even though temperatures haven't climbed beyond 31 degrees for the last two days. But I think we're so overheated that it will take time for our entire system to cool down.
