I mean these little guys:

I bought this angel-making kit(*) at Rayher last year but wasn't really happy with either the design or the colour concept. Not for angels anyway. So I've redesigned them as pine tree gnomes, with more contrasting colours and lots of hand embroidery. My concept (though not complete yet) looks at the moment like this:

The little hats will have sparkly pom-poms on the top, and I think both arms and legs will be made of chenille wires; coloured ones, too. Little gnomes should be bright and colourful, don't you agree? I've saved the wings for the other angel project; that way I won't have to make them myself. Might add a little sparkle to those, too, though.

Other than that, Mum had her weekly shower, I cooked for two days in advance - tomorrow is laundry day, plus I'll have to do some grocery shopping - and I've written quite a bit, too, which is wonderful. In my head, I've rearranged the entire "Enterprise - The Maiden Voyage" series, and I think the Shuttlepod One AU will be titled "The Stockholm Syndrome" or something like that, seeing that it has Hoshi and Reed stranded on a Class-D planet. Those who read the first part know where the title comes from.

I also talked to my friend Evie on the phone, which was nice. All in all, I'm content with the day; even the heat was bearable today.

(*)BTW, you should never use the expression "angel maker" in Hungarian. Here it traditionally meant experienced older women who... err... helped other women to get rid of unexpected and/or unwanted pregnancies.

Love the concept of your pine tree gnomes, also love the embroidered cards you have been posting. Glad to see your writing is going well, just wish you would get a bit of cooler weather.

Amen. They promised rain and a drop of temperatures for next week, but I'll believe when I see it.

Oh my, the history of the term “angel maker” is fascinating! The study of the history of languages is so interesting. One of the treasures is my HUGE two volumes of the Oxford Shorter Dictionary, where every word has the history of its use and its origin in every entry. I know reading a dictionary sounds like the dullest pastime ever, but it is fascinating. I had to save my book vouchers from friends and family for a few years to buy that dictionary. If you’re wondering why a two volume dictionary that weighs four bricks is the “shorter” version, it is because the full version is twenty-something volumes. One an only dream!

I, too, find languages endlessly fascinating; the similarities as welll as the differences. Sometimes when my native speaker betűs correct a phrase I keep the incorrect one becsuse in my ears it describes more truly what I have intended to write.

Oh my goodness. I can totally see how that phrase could mean that. I love the little gnomes. Also, get rid of the arms and round the top of the hat and you have a mushroom.

Really? I didn't know that. It shows that you can never learn all the words of a foreign language. Not even one you've grown up with.
