... err, I mean the café at the corner, of course. But it does have a slight aura akin to the Anker cafés, so we happily pretend. To get there without being cooked alive means to get up at least an hour earlier, but it is worth the effort. Their croissants are heavenly, and they serve Julius Meinl coffee!

After taking Mum home I went to the pharmacy, the drugstore and one of the small local supermarkets, but even so, I was back within the hour. We watched some telly, ate some ice cream (temperatures had already climbed over 30 degrees by then), I did a bit of writing and then we both took a nap.

Lunch was more or less skipped; we had an espresso and ate the last of the babka I had bought in the café back on Monday. It is absolutely yummy, too. Then Mum did the book-keeping and I went online to make notes for various kinds of little angels, all made of toilet rolls. Not that I'd need more stuff for the fair, but I like to try out new things. Meanwhile, the half-finished embroidered card is still waiting for its turn.

Tomorrow I'll do some cooking, I swear! And some crafting, although no idea yet what. I'll decide in the last moment, I guess.

At least crafting doesn't expend too much energy.

That depends on the art of crafting. If you struggle to push the needle through several layers of hard felt, that does cost a great deal of energy. But I'm doing small things now.

So am I. There aren't any other places within Mum's walking range, so this little café is a true blessing.

Your cafe' sounds wonderful, wish we had something like that here. Sorry you are still suffering from the heat, I would have thought by September that your weather would have changed. We are dying here but for a different reason. We have a tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico that is dumping torrential rains. This is the fourth day of such weather and it will continue into the weekend — sigh. At least, (so far) it is nonstop rain but without the usual lightning and thunder, gusty winds, and other bad and frightening stuff. But, we are under flash flood warnings, so I am careful not to drive down any streets that flood. My yard is so waterlogged that it's like a marsh. Our carport floods (bad design) so we track the wet into the house even though we don't wear outdoor shoes inside.

I feed two feral kitties and (not intentionally but unavoidably) a few raccoons, a possum, and two Blue Jays. The poor kitties only come when it is dry. The one that comes every day has missed two evening meals in a row. She showed up this morning looking quite miserable, wet and bedraggled, mewling pitifully for breakfast. I slept a bit late, so no telling how long she waited. The other cat is a fly by night, showing up once a month or so. I guess with all the wet, she/he decided to brave the unknown and beg. There is a drainage canal behind our house, probably why we get so much wildlife.

Still the heat holds on, I see. We have gotten cool temperatures, and up north at our campsite it was so cold at night we had to turn on the furnace in our camper! What a difference from the hot days of the past weeks. It will be hotter again this week, steadily climbing to the high 80sF on Wednesday and Thursday.

In a week we'll be hiking in the mountains and it will be very cold:) But then we're visiting our daughter, and I think it will be pretty warm there. I will pack some light clothing among the long hiking pants and long-sleeve shirts:)
