Alpenfest

... is not a festival but a German food brand. The Lidl supermarket at the corner sometimes has a German week, and then they offer Alpenfest products. Today I went really wild with them. I bought Spätzle, both fresh and dried ones, Semmelknödel, Dampfnudel and Almdudler lemonade. Mum and I both love traditional German and Austrian food (sorry, [livejournal.com profile] noadvertising). As fresh noodles need to be used up quickly, I made them with carbonara sauce today - it was heavenly, and we still have leftovers for tomorrow, when we intend to clean the kitchen thoroughly, so no cooking will be a blessing.

It is still hot and humid - last night's short but hefty rain ended up inside the balcony again - so we tried to do as little as possible (save for the grocery shopping at 7am and the cooking, that is). I worked a bit on my complicated beaded card and did some research for the Enterprise AU - small steps but progress nonetheless.

As for fests in general, there is a party going on somewhere in our area, with loud, insistent (and repetitive) dum-dum music as my pupils liked to call it. I hope they won't have it going on all night; such mind-numbing noise is not good for a good night's rest. Of course, tomorrow is a national holiday, so people want to celebrate it, probably with lots of alcohol and other substances.

I bought a bottle of Almdudler at Aldi today! 😆

We usually don't get it here, unless either Lidl or Aldi has a theme week. It is unreasonably expensive, of course — about twice the price of other carbonated drinks — but we love it, so from time to time we allow ourselves to enjoy. *g*

It's not too expensive here but also not readily available.
I used to love it as a child, when I went on holiday to Austria with my grandparents.
So sometimes I want it just for old times sake ... ;-)

Back when we still could travel, even if only for a few days, we regularly went to Austria and brought some Almdudler home with us. It kept us in holiday mood for weeks afterwards.

Delicious! As a “Schwab” I heartily approve the Spätzle. If only they had Maultaschen too. I hear that you can buy manufactured Maultaschen in Germany and Austria, but I’ve only eaten homemade.

I haven't seen Maultaschen, but they had Schupfnudeln as well.

I’ve never eaten Schupfnudeln. They weren’t among my Oma’s repertoire. I’ll have to ask my mum if she has eaten them. For years, until health intervened, Mum used Oma’s recipes regularly.

Sounds like the popular way of celebrating in the UK, too. Far too much alcohol and loud, loud music. I'm fortunate to live in an estate of one and two bedroom bungalows, so most of us are retirees. But we sometimes get some bleed-over from the younger population of the properties at the top of the hill.

After 40 years in the education business my tortured eardrums can't take loud noises anymore.

The prices for soft drinks have practically doubled over the last two years. And even if I don´t drink them- my offspring do!

Yes, I've noticed that, too. We regularly buy the Lidl brand of ginger ale, since it used to be half the price of the Kingston one, but it practically counts as a luxury now.

Ick. I hope the party quieted down by bedtime. Is your apartment block only for retired, or anyone?
