Since I've written off the new cleaning lady who's performed the vanishing act on us twice out of four times by now, I had to develop a new cleaning strategy. From now on cleaning will be done in small chunks, as early in the morning as I can manage, at least while the frigging heat lasts.

So, today I did the bath and the loo. It doesn't sound much, does it? But instead of just wiping around things with a mop, I used Mum's old method (from twenty or so years ago) and went on all fours with a rag, washed the tiles, got into every corner, scrubbed the PVC floor and the bathtub, the sink and the WC inside out, and am very content with the results. Also, really early - right after getting up - I went around with the dusting whisk and did all bookshelves, the tops of the cupboards and the doorframes. Go me!

The next step will be the kitchen, scheduled for Tuesday. We're planning to do a really thorough job that promises to last several hours. But at least we'll have it done the way we like.

Needless to say that I was fairly dead by the time I was done. It's still 33 degrees outside, after all. So I worked a bit on embroidered card #23, then I slept for nearly three hours in the early afternoon, when it started to get really hot - Mum did the same - and then we skipped proper lunch in favour of some iced pear compote, a few chips, coffee and caramel ice cream. We are planning to have a more substantial supper later on.

Writing-wise I can report a bit of progress, too. No actual new words today, but I've typed up some of what had been written in the previous days, plus I've done some research and printed out a great deal of technobabble that will - hopefully - prove helpful with the further chapters. All in all, I'm content.

So glad that most of our kitchen cleaning duties get done by husband mine- I won´t climb onto a step stool to clean the fronts. Besides, my poor fingers won´t tolerate neither cleaning agents nor disposable gloves. So hubby is lord ocer cleaning agents while I am wielding vacuum cleaner and duster- lived worksharing, I´d say!

Sounds like a good system. Alas, the only other one in this household is Mum, and she's restricted to some light dusting and washing-up.
