... turned out better than the first one quite some time ago. Partly because I've found a shortbread recipe that didn't came out of the oven hard like shoesoles (not to mention it tastes great) and partly because I had found ready-made caramel cream at Aldi half a year or so ago. It is still a bit too liquid for my taste, but at least I didn't have to bother with making it from scratch (which has proved hopeless several times). I did kill the chocolate ganache, though, because I forgot that I shouldn't add cold butter to melted chocolate, and the whole thing ended up terribly grainy and matte. But it still tastes good, so I consider it a lesson learned and all that.

Other than baking, I've finished Card #12 and pre-prickled the next two pieces. Tomorrow I'll be out of the house a lot, so it's good to do things in advance.

Tomorrow, there were lots of athletics on the telly, which we both enjoyed a lot. So, we've watched TV for a couple of hours, both in the morning and the afternoon. The weather was also only moderately warm (29°C), so it was bearable.

I've never made millionaire's shortbread myself ... only eaten it in the UK.

Traybakes are my favourite — such great results with fairly little effort! Especially if one can have one or two of the ingredients ready-made. *g*

We are supposed to reach the mid twenties in temperature today...despite it being cloudy. I intend to be doing some weeding. Joy. You are certainly making good headway with those stitched cards.

They are very relaxing; and comparatively easy to make. Unless one messes up the preparation work, that is...

I am in grave danger of gaining weight only by reading your baking entries!

I'm a pushover for anything caramel — yum! Glad you were able to see a lot of the olympics. It is disappointing for me this year as I can only find partial moments to view.

That is evil! Thank God we have Eurosport and several Hungarian sports canals, too — they are included in the package we pay for. As a rule I don't care for sports too much, but athletics and gymnastics and equestrial events are the exception. Mum is into football (=soccer for you on the other side of the pond), skydiving and tower jumping as well, but she generally likes sports anyway.

there are always Aldi commercials on TV here which is weird because Aldi is much too far south for anybody in my part of Calif to shop at.

Weird! I'm really glad we have both Aldi and Lidl, they are excellent supermarkets: not too big but well sorted ones.

we don't have Lidl either but we do have the Grocery Outlet, Sprouts, Trader Joe, Safeway and some mom and pop grocery stores. Whole Foods is too expensive so I almost never get anything there.
