Today we had 38°C again. When I woke up at 5.50am, it was still 26°C - not even the nights cool down properly anymore. *sigh*

Since I couldn't fall asleep again, I decided to get up, take a shower and do the shopping, which was a jolly good idea - at 8am I was at home again. As I didn't have to cook today (save for an omelet to go with the leftovers), I decided to try my hand on home-made ice-cream... the quick and easy version. Aldi sells these instant fruit soup powders, which you can mix with milk for soup and with yogurt for ice-cream. I chose a strawberry one and even added chopped fresh strawberries to the mix - yummy!

The rest of the day was spent with pathetic vegetating. My brain is so overheated I had difficulties to understand what was said on TV, even when they were talked in Hungarian. I fully capitulated when I tried to watch anything in German, and was just generally useless all day.

Crafting-wise I worked a tiny bit on my penultimate pot-holder; only a little, as my fingers hurt again. I'm in pure survival mode and refuse to push myself in matters that aren't absolutely necessary.

It seems as if Germany is the only cool place in all of Europe.

Home-made ice cream, you say! I'm intrigued. My supermarket here used to sell this ice cream sugar, which you would just mix with milk or whatever mushed fruit you wanted for ice cream. But they stopped selling it years go. I'm gonna look into the Aldi yogurt solution.

I think it would be better to use it as a cold dessert, just in the regular fridge. It froze stone hard in the freezer and was really hard to eat.

I can't think of any shops here that are open before 0830 — and that's fairly rare

Living in a big city does have its advantages. We have two supermarkets within easy walking distance; the one opens at 6.30, the other one at 7am!

I really doubt that, even in our cities, that happens much — but it's a long time since I lived in a city

Sorry I've been away for a while, I am recovering from pneumonia and the antibiotics I had to take for it — sigh. Since I was not feeling up to par, out of breath alot, I also did not do alot. Which of course, means that this last week I've spent desperately trying to catch up on everyday stuff like house cleaning, laundry, etc. while also dragging myself and dear husband around to our myriad doctor's appointments. His are the worst, as I have to lug out the wheelchair and accessories and put them back into the vehicle when finished — whew! Other than that, I've done mostly nothing. My son is spending the rest of this month at his girlfriend's house studying non-stop for the BAR exam which he will take at the end of the month. Then once their exam is over, they will have three days to pack and they are off to the UK on a vacation. (Her law school graduation present from her parents). So, to make a long story short, I am feeling much better but it is still a bit chaotic here.

On another note, I have read through your entries that I missed, at least as many as LJ will allow. I feel for you on the heat, it is scorching here also, but we have air conditioning, which makes it bearable. Glad to see you have done a bit of writing and as usual, quite a bit of crafting. I will try to be more regular on LJ, especially once I get caught up.

Did you have problems accessing my entries? How odd!

Sorry to hear about your health issues. How on earth did you catch pneumonia in this heat?

Lj has only ever allowed me to go back so many entries, unless I use calendar. So, no real problems accessing entries, just sometimes am lazy. As to the pneumonia, I asked the doctor how I would have caught it as I had not recently been sick. He said it was aspiration pneumonia and that I would have aspirated bacteria into my lungs somehow. I did smoke for years and years and have mild COPD, and he said that made me more susceptible to infection. However, this is the first time I have experienced any consequence from the COPD aside from not being able to blow out as deeply as someone who does not have it. Anyway, I am finally getting over the side effects of the antibiotics and starting to feel like my self again — yay!

I totally agree with you on the button pushing. Why make life more difficult if you don't have to? I hope the jet stream gets it's act together soon, so that I can share some of your heat and you can have some of my polar air.

I wish we´d have your nightly 26 here! This would be a reasonable temperature for a summer day! But no, it´s either hot but more often too cool!

30-32 degrees are fairly normal for high summer (although still way too much for me). But this…
