Today, we had up to 38°C again. So I did the cooking at 8pm, when it was still "only" 29°C. Carrot soup and parsley potatoes can be warmed up in minutes, the salad was cold anyway, so all I had to do at lunchtime was to cook the sausages in a pan. Which was done while we were eating the soup. Go me!

For the rest of the day we were vegetating in front of the telly, nicking in from time to time and taking short naps in-between. Frankly, it's too hot to even sleep, and sitting in a darkened flat all day is no fun. Poor Granny used to say that she was shut into a crypt before she'd even die - and back when she was still with us summers weren't this extreme. Still hot, of course, 30-32°C, but not hotter. Of course, for me everything above 27°C is way too hot... *sigh*

I did work a bit on my pot-holder a bit; made the heart appliqué and the basic rows of stitches, put in the lining and am working on the quilting right now. I'm trying not to overdo things, and pushing the needle through 5-6 layers is hard, even though it isn't felt. Ah, well, I've got enough time left until December.

In terms of social life, one of our neighbours dropped by today, asking us to take some bananas and frozen peas off her hands. She's had her dental work done and eaten too many pureed stuff, so that she can't even see the things right now and thought Mum would like them. We accepted, of course - otherwise she'd have thrown out the food, and we have a definite aversion towards such actions. So now we've got enough bananas to last for a week and pea soup will be on the menu for at least three times - it is a large bag of frozen peas!

Summer is the worst! And the rising summer temperatures are terrifying. I’m already dreading summer, even as I’m in our cold season. (Our cold season is very temperate, the coldest being 1 or 0 Celsius. So easy to tolerate, just layer up more. Although I’m lucky in that I enjoy the cold… because it’s so easy, just put on more clothes; it’s not like you can peel off your body layers in the heat.)

Free food is always a win. And if you don't get to eat all the banana's you won't have wasted any money at least.

Oh, we can eat a great deal of bananas! One of the few food items Mum an eat without cutting it into microscopic pieces. Besides, I can always puree them and freeze them for baking purposes.

I'm feeling smug — it's barely 19C here — but I'm really sympathetic. I wish it would stop raining here

Constant rain isn't fun, either!

I could do without cooking on days so hot! Not a clue what husband might do then...

Perhaps he'd boil some potatoes? 😛
