The creative repurposing of things
Jul. 1st, 2024 07:51 pmWell, we did have a big rainstorm last night, as expected. The balcony leaked copiously, as expected. The water has found another way in - fortunately, I managed to extend my catastrophe prevention methods (aka makeshift rainwater channeling, consisting of sheets of tinfoil and strategically placed sponges and plastic bins), so everything went into the big plastic... thing where it was supposed to go. Still, it's getting really old.
Unfortunately, temperatures haven't dropped as much as hoped for. 29-30 degrees are still too much for my not-heat-resistant system. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 24-25 degrees - we'll see. Mum and I postponed our weekly visit to the café; let's hope tomorrow will be the day.
To my utter dismay, I had to cook today (you know how much I hate cooking, don't you?). I improvised a stir-fry of chicken breast stripes, asparagus bits that had been pre-cooked and frozen, tomatoes and mashed potatoes, using the boiling water of the asparagus for an equally improvised vegetable soup. That meant most of the morning in the kitched - bleh! But at least I won't have to cook tomorrow; long live the leftovers!
Crafting-wise, I started a new project (because I only have three unfinished ones): small purses made of - don't laugh! - shoulder pads. I always remove those from the clothes because I've got broad enough shoulders naturally and would otherwise look like a gorilla. Had I planned to make larger plushies, I might have used the pads for elephant ears or whatnot. But they work well enough as little purses, either for paper tissues or for change, as they close well enough with Velcro. Which brought me the questionable delight of sewing on self-adhesive Velcro stripes, which is always hell on the fingers.
In the afternoon we were practically vegetating, focused on survival. I chatted with my friend Evie on the phone, Mum watched football and also talked to her friends on the phone. We live in hope that tomorrow will be just a bit cooler.

The annoying thing is that we've had several days when it's been 20C and brilliant sunshine, which is very hard on my eyes
