Which is why we got up an hour earlier than usual. Mum came with me for a very short walk: I parked her at the playground next to our building while going to Lidl. She was sitting on a shadowy bench, talking to people who came by - we've lived here since 1977 and still know a lot of people who came here at the same time.

Coming home, we had brunch, then I did a bit of crafting - lavender sachets 8 and 9 are now completed - before dropping dead... well, fast asleep, actually. I slept well over an hour (necessary after a 6-hour-night at my age) and was woken only by the physiotherapist lady. During whose visit I made the finishing touches on my craft projects.

Late lunch consisted of the last of the leftover carrot soup, more of the coffee and walnut traybake and ice cream. Not very healthy, I know, but good for the weather.

As it is official decluttering time in our district, I finally managed to get rid of our electric oven that hasn't been used for the last, oh, thirty or so years. We repurposed it as something to keep the kitchen scales on. Now I'll be able to hunt down a proper chest of drawers or shelves for the kitchen, with enough storage space for the stuff we use every day. Hopefully.

It is still abysmally hot over here. Today it was "just" 31°C, but it felt much more. The more hot days, the less chance the nights have to cool down the building; and the insulation keeps in the heat, too. A good thing during winter, not so practical in high summer.

Heat is the worst. When it’s cold you can pile on more layers at least, but you can’t peel off more layers in the heat.

I discovered that, if I keep all the windows and doors shut, my house stays cooler in summer. Of course, that's when we have a summer. It's early, but still only fifteen degrees this morning. I'm assuming the temp will rise later, but the weather app says the high today will only be seventeen.

Yeah, we shut everything around 10am, too. It's still 26°C in the flat by the evening.

I wish I could. I hate it when temperatures go above 26°C.

Ice cream is always a good choice.
