A semi-Viennaise experience
Jun. 18th, 2024 10:48 amEarly post today ‘cause I have something great to share. I’ll add the rest of the daily report later.
It has been FOUR YEARS since Mum and I had an outing. First there was the plague, and at the height of that she broke her leg and became more or lesz house-bound. Not to mention the heart attack in February, which resulted in her getting a pacemaker.
Today, however, we went to a café. A local bakery chain - similar to Anker in Vienna - had recently opened a small shop nearby. A really small one, with just three tables and a counter. It is slightly farther off than any distance we’ ve management since February, but there are benches on the way, so we have it a try - and succeeded!
It really felt like having breakfast in an Anker café in Vienna. We had cappuccino and a croissant each (both absolutely delicious) and just sat there, watched people and trams going by and pretended to be on vacation. We also decided to do this on the regular basis in the future.

Date: 2024-06-19 05:40 pm (UTC)A well-deserved little reprieve after a very long time. It hits hard to think it's been 4 years now already!
Oh, btw, did potatoes just spike in price in Hungary, too? today was only my second grocery store visit since I sprained my ankle 3 weeks ago, and I had a meltdown when I saw the prices. They doubled in price since May. Mom says it's because too much rain on the fields but prices are higher than during the worst lockdown periods now, so I'm just baffled.
