So, Mum has successfully recovered from her upset stomach, therefore we ate the yummy food from yesterday with delight. Well... half of it, which means I won't have to cook tomorrow, either. Always a good thing in my books.

I've spent enough time in the kitchen anyway. I've made the vanilla slices (or whatever they are called in English: they are simply vanilla custard between two layers of puff pastry; I just added the strawberries)and grated the zucchinis to freeze them - that took me the greater part of the morning. We also had laundry day, this being Saturday, so I didn't have time to get bored.

I still managed to squeeze in half an hour of crafty time first thing in the morning (as I knew it would be hopeless later). I've made the page bases for the last two baby book pages. I'm still not sure about the design; not only for those two pages, but also for the inside of the back cover. I'd love to make something really fancy but I have the feeling that they won't turn out like that. I'm just too tired all the time; not so much physically as rather mentally, and that has a detrimental effect on creativity.

The weather remains crazy. It is generally warm, but we have at least one thunderstorm a day, with heavy rain and strong winds. The balcony doesn't stand a chance. Thank god, my self-made catastrophe prevention (in the form of strategically placed tinfoil sheets, a sponge and a plastic bucket) is still working beautifully. I had three fingers high water in the bucket in the morning. Having that on the floor wouldn't have been fun.*sigh*

Well played on the balcony disaster prevention. We call those cakes custard slices too, and they're one of my favourite treats. I would rather have a custard slice than a cream one. I don't know about where you are, but if you buy them here they are extremely expensive.

Prices for cakes and slices have skyrocketed over here, too. Which is even more inspiration to make them myself. For the price of a single piece I can produce a whole tray full of them — even if they end up in the "ugly but yummy" category. :)

I would call them vanilla slices, and they are delicious!

That they are indeed. And ready-made puff pastry is so useful!

As long as you can keep the water from spreading on the floor it will be okay. I know that craftsmen do not bother about "minor" repair work!

It would be still nice not to become a nervous wrack every time we are having somewhat heavier rain. :(

We've been having the same type of weather. We don't have a balcony that floods (thank goodness) but do have a driveway and sidewalk that flood. Not enough to get into the house, mind you, but enough to require stepping stones in the carport that lead to a small concrete ramp in front of the door that leads into the house. No one else that I've ever heard of has stepping stones in their carport — what a crazy arrangement!
