Starting off into the new year

My late Grandma used to say that what you do on New Year's Day you'll be doing all year. Well, I certainly hope so, for many important reasons:

1. I got a good deal of writing done;
2. I made some modest progress with one of my craft projects;
3. I was practically pain free all day;
4. I didn't have to cook;
5. I was pretty lazy, even had a nice nap in the late morning.

So yeah, it was nice, even though I had to get up an hour earlier than usual, in order to get Mum ready for attending Mass via television in time. *g*

We also forgot about the New Year's concert from Vienna, which we always, always watch on this day. Well, at least we got the last 20 minutes or so, but entirely missed out on the ballet parts. *grumble, grumble*

Otherwise, it was a quiet day. Mum had some phone calls from her friends and I had one, too, from Evie. So, social life was had as well.

The ballet was a bit weird this year, but they danced in a very nice castle, which I didn't catch the name of unfortunately.

I hope your grandma is mistaken, I don't want to have to pay the same damn phone bill all year, having to pay it twice is entirely bad enough.

My mum always loved the New Year Concert from Vienna. I was never a fan, I'm afraid. I think it would be more fun to see in person...not that it will ever happen.

By the looks of it neither will I. This is my fifth year of not-so-splendid isolation, and sometimes I think I'll go strong, barking mad in no time.

We had our usual New Year's dinner — fried cabbage with bacon, pork, and black-eyed peas. Supposedly the green brings wealth, and the peas, health or something like that. We vary from corned beef to some type of pork for the meat. Not our favorite foods, but tradition. Otherwise, it was a quiet day for us also.
