... from 2023, and I won't be sad to see this year gone. It wasn't too bad for us, personally, but it was horrible for other parts of the world, so I sincerely hope the next one will be better. After all, what else can we do than hope and pray?

This particular day started unpleasantly for me. I got up pain free; then after fifteen minutes or so, I had such a pain in my lower back that I had to creep back onto the bed, roll into a ball of utter misery and wait for it to lessen. For about five minutes I was seriously worried that I might get crippled for good. Fortunately, it went away after that and all I had for the rest of the day was the occasional dull ache, radiating out into my right thigh. Nothing new then. I hope and pray that this means whatever was out of alignment slipped back into place, but one can never know. Having a pain free period (not just the back but various other body parts involved) would be nice for a change. I've been struggling with slight but unpleasant aches for a month by now, at the very least. *sigh*

Consequently, I wasn't up to much today. I did finish Page#2 of the songbook, though, and decided to fix the snowflakes on the snowman page with one stitch each, so that they won't come off and suffocate any small children, should the foam stickers prove less self-adhesive than they promise. I did the same with 4 self-adhesive Velcro patches, for the same reason. Perhaps one day I'll be heroic enough to do their counterparts as well.

For lunch I've made toast from some week-old rolls that kept surprisingly well on the balcony, with sliced ham and grated cheese and I made a mixed salad to it. Mum approved. The lady from the neighbourhood brought us some Topfenschnittee - we always give each other samples from our respective baking - so it was a filling meal, after all. She promised to come over tomorrow evening to celebrate a belated name-day with us; that will be a lengthy affair, I fear, but at least we are having one visitor before the year ends. And we washed Mum's hair today, so she'll be pretty for her visitor. :)

This dull pain, which flares up so much now and then, would be scaring me quite a lot!

As I said, it's nothing new. I get this every couple of years since 1996, when I managed to lift Grandma in the bed the wrong way. Back then, I was in pure agony for months — and still had to go to work and help Mum taking care of Grandma. Compared with that, this is relatively harmless... just unpleasant.

I hope so, too. Unfortunately, it is always a lengthy process. *sigh*

Your pain sounds awful. I do hope it improves/fades/disappears. Flare ups of old injuries are dreadful!

I'm so sorry to hear about your pain woes. Bad back pain is quite scary as you get older. I sometimes have the same thought as you. What if it doesn't get better? What if I can't walk? Thank goodness things have settled down for you.

Yes, I was seriously panicking — and not just because of myself. I still have Mum to take care of, after all.

Back pain radiating to the thigh sounds extra painful. I hope it settles down quickly.
Good idea about securing the snow flakes. Little fingers always find a way to pick and pull at loose corners:)
This morning Rick has put together a batch of split peas and ham soup, our traditional use of the last of the Christmas ham. I have several whole wheat rolls left over as well, and I am going to make garlic roast slices with them. Your toast idea inspired me!

Toasts are always good — and easy to make. You butter the bread/roll/whatever, pile leftovers onto it and bake it in the oven. Easy-peasy. :)

Oh how I recognise that feeling. So for 2024 I wish you at least some days when nothing hurts at all.
