Advent 2023 - Day 22
Dec. 22nd, 2023 08:02 pmGood Lord, only two days left until Christmas! Which, over here, means Christmas Eve, BTW. That's the day when the Christmas tree is decorated and the presents are opened. Therefore I'll have to dig out the artificial monstrosity tomorrow and put it together in advance, so that I'll only have to do the decoration on the 24th.
Today was dominated by household chores, mostly. I hate such days (and I have too many of those anyway).
Mum had her ritual shower, which she performs once a week, now that she can actually enter the bathtub. That means I had to remove all things that are normally placed on the bench across the tub and carry them to the kitchen. I can climb into the tub with all them in place but Mum couldn't, so they have to temporarily go.
Then she decided that we should do the laundry instead of tomorrow because that way everything will be dried and put away on Chrismas Eve. I understand the sentiment, but I hate my painfully created schedule being turned upside down. Well, there was no way to help it, so I removed everything that usually is piled on top of Louise (the washing machine, just to make it clear), since she opens upward. Those things must be relocated to the small bedside table in the anteroom. Our flat is small and crowded. *sigh*
In-between of those tasks I also had to cook for two days in advance because otherwise I'd have to cook tomorrow, too, and that's simply not an option. I hate cooking almost as much as all other kinds of housework. And no, baking doesn't count as housework. Baking is ART!
So, between cooking and laundry it isn't surprising that my precious creative time, which is usually between 9.30 and 10.30 in the morning, was cut short and I didn't manage to finish the new front page of the Christmas quiet book. No, I don't get more me-time. When everything is done and the usual crap telly watched, it's 4pm or later, and by that time I'm too wrung out to even think of doing anything creative. Today, I happened to play some Solitaire on Methuselah the geriatric laptop and by the third time I fell asleep on my keypad I decided to take a nap. After which it wasduty supper time again, and there we are.
On a more positive note, my friend Elise called with the promise to drop by tomorrow afternoon, and a lovely Christmas card from

I tried to get everything ready for the Christmas celebration today, at least as far as cleaning, as Christmas Eve is forecast to be heavy, heavy rain all day and night :0( Didn't get everything done, but at least got a head start.
