This was a long day
Nov. 17th, 2023 10:24 pmFirstly, I didn't have enough sleep last night; was really upset about my poor toes. Fortunately, they've improved a bit - now they don't hurt more than they usually do after a somewhat more... forceful encounter with the chiropodist.
Due to not enough sleep I couldn't get up at the time I originally planned. Meaning that the food run scheduled for this morning practically ate the whole morning. Fridays are only good for grocery shopping when you can go really early, otherwise the supermarkets are very crowded. But I had to go; we had neither bread nor milk in the house, not to mentioned other, albeit perhaps less urgent food items.
When I got home I found Mum in a really bad shape, shaking and shivering, struggling with an upset stomach. It lasted for a couple of hours, until she got rid of whatever kind of food didn't agree with her. Her joints also hurt a lot of worse than usual (they always hurt, but there's a level she says she's used to) - perhaps because of the strong winds and the recurring rain we are having. I'm not sure. She recovered a bit around lunchtime (which is after 3pm in our house), but still didn't feel like herself.
In the afternoon I baked two sorts of Christmas cookies, which took about three hours, due to the fact that my electric chopper gave up its soul, and so I had to chop the peanuts and pecans the old-fashioned way: with a big kitchen knife. The rest was easy, but I really hate it when kitchen utensils die on me at the worst moment.
With that, the day was basically over. We vegetated a bit in front of the telly, watching Dr. Pimple Popper and the GBBO... and that was it.
