Being efficient
Nov. 3rd, 2023 08:20 pmWell, it was a full day again - full of achievements, I'd say.
I started with writing, while Mum was still asleep. For that, I had to get up a tad earlier than usual, but it was worth the sacrifice. Not only have I jotted down the basic outline of the next chapter but also wrote the opening scene... well, mostly. I still have to add a few lines of dialogue, but that shouldn't be too complicated.
After our morning routine I did a bit of crafting: still working on the little lavender-infused pillows. All six of them are now sewn together in the inside; I then turned them back and ironed them, so that they can be seamed with decorative blanket stitch. I love blanket stitch: it covers a lot of mistakes and looks good if properly done. One of the six pillows is now seamed and stuffed and completely finished, which is a good feeling.
Of course, for that I had to crumble the dried lavender flowers Eenie had brought me yesterday. Which was finicky work and took me almost an hour. In the end I could barely feel my back; I had to do it in the kitchen, so that the tiny things won't get into any sensitive electronic equipment. Like a PC keyboard. So I did it, stuffed the finished pillow and mixed the rest of the lavender with toy stuffing and bagged it in a plastic bag to have the stuffing infused with the smell.
When that was done, I cooked lunch: Shepherd's Pie, so that we'll have something for the next two days, too. While the pie was cooking in the oven, I massacred a grapefruit, for simple eating purposes. Which taught me another important lesson: never again buy grapefruit from Lidl! This is the second time I had done so, and both times the grapefruit was sour. Not bitter, that would be natural, but really, really sour, like unripened oranges. I assume they order the wrong kind, because this never happened with grapefruits bought from Auchan or from CBA Prima, the Hungarian grocery chain. Well, I poured some maple syrup over the dissected thing and hope that by tomorrow it will soak up some sweetness. It is too expensive to be inedible, dammit!
After lunch we watched a bit of telly, then I played some Solitaire on Methuselah, the laptop, and after that prepared the kitchen for tomorrow's baking. I've decided to give
sallymn's soul cakes a try. The recipe asks for currants, which are simply unavailable, so I'll use dried cranberries instead and I'm sure they'll be yummy. I'll also give my brand new cake stamps a chance to shine; let's hope the dough is the right one for them. *fingers crossed*
During supper we watched the Great Australian Bake-Off, then I talked to my friend Evie on the phone, and now the day is over again. It is dizzying how fast time flies away!

Date: 2023-11-04 03:47 am (UTC)How disappointing about the grapefruit. I watched a re-run of the Great British Baking show the other day, went to bed starving, lol. I don't bake, so we rarely have anything good in the house.
