I went to the churchyard today and lit candles for my grandparents and for one of Mum's deceased friends, since she couldn't come with me. On my way home I made a stop at the Allee shopping centre and bought a fairly alarming amount of Lindor chocolate balls, on the principle of "it's better if the money goes down into our bellies in the form of chocolate than into the many pockets of Vater Staat". The Germans among us would know what I mean. *g*

Coming home I picked up Mum and take her out for a walk. We've just managed to reach home again when the heavens opened. Fortunately, there was just a bit of wind, so the balcony came away without leaking... so far. Let's hope it stays that way. *fingers crossed*

We then called the company who makes the walk-in bathtubs (or rather modulates the existing bathtubs into walk-in ones). They fixed the job for December 1, but they'll come and take a close look at the bath first. They're supposed to call again to fix a date for that. *again, fingers crossed*

We ate leftovers and I started making little pillow-cases because my friend Eenie promised me some lavender. If she can't deliver it, I'll simply make small pillows for the girl-children of family and friends.

I talked to my other friend, Elise, on the phone. She very hesitantly asked if I'd make gifts of Christmas cookies this year again; I assured her that I would. She has 5 grandchildren, an ailing father and a somewhat... complicated mother-in-law who's moved in with them some time ago. She needs all the help she can get, and I'm happy to take at least the Christmas baking off her way too busy schedule.

Then my friend Evie called. She was supposed to come over tomorrow but her eldest decided to dump his son onto her lap a day earlier than originally planned. Including a sleepover - the boy's very first one! So, our plans have been cancelled; too bad, she was actually invited for lunch. Ah, well, there will be other days.

And the final blow of the day: FF.Net decided to introduce even more "smart" changes. From now on, you have to re-enable your e-mail alerts every 90 days. I've done so, and an hour later got the same message. I've done so again, but I'm quite sure it won't take this time, either. FF.Net has been near unmanageable in recent time. Perhaps I'll simply give up on it - I've stopped updating a long time ago anyway. I'll just visit my favourites from time to time.

Yeah, so am I, but as [livejournal.com profile] noadvertising would tell you, the sudden appearance of grandchildren is part of every grandmother's life. ;)

Too bad lunch with Evie had to be cancelled, but yeah, sometimes things get in the way.

Man, your friend Elise sounds like she really has a lot going on, especially with the difficult mother-in-law living there. That sounds like a nightmare!

I'm intrigued by your walk-in bathtub solution, I'll have to google it. That would be so good for my mom, too.

It's honestly been years since I visited ff.net and even longer since I posted anything there. I prefer Ao3. Uploading is just a matter of cut and paste, and they have an impressive filtering system to find stuff to read.

Oh, I can tell you a lot about the difficult mother-in- law situation! Poor friend of yours!
I had a FFnet account once, but lost password and interest. No big loss, I'd say!

Elise is a trooper. Still, I'm glad when I can help her at least a little bit.

I liked ff.net because one could upload stuff with all the bold fonts and italics already there, without the need to additional hand coding. But they make things more and more user-unfriendly lately.

I dunno, I liked ff.net for a very long time. Still go back to re-read my favourites. But the giant ads and all the new "security" modifications make using it very unpleasant.

You can do that at AO3 as well — you just choose the 'rich text' option when uploading rather than the HTML one.

S2C has been complaining about FF.net recently as well.

I am glad that you are getting the walk-in bath project underway, it will be such a benefit.

Your baking must be well appreciated by everyone who receives it — but Elise especially. What a good gift it is.

I've been given cookie boxes as gifts to all my friends for years. It is a win-win situation: I can bake to my heart's desire and they don't have to bake because I do it for them. Plus, I don't have to agonize about what kind of gifts I should give them, and they don't have unwanted mathoms cluttering up their shelves, gathering dust. *g*

Yeah, I've stopped, too. But some of my favourites either use different names on AO3 or don't post there at all, so I regularly go back to read.

I agree with you on the Lindt principle ;0) Sorry your lunch with Evie was cancelled. I still visit ff.net every once in awhile, but it's definitely not the same as it used to be, sad, considering its one of the older sites.
