Small things today
Oct. 31st, 2023 08:43 pmI went to the churchyard today and lit candles for my grandparents and for one of Mum's deceased friends, since she couldn't come with me. On my way home I made a stop at the Allee shopping centre and bought a fairly alarming amount of Lindor chocolate balls, on the principle of "it's better if the money goes down into our bellies in the form of chocolate than into the many pockets of Vater Staat". The Germans among us would know what I mean. *g*
Coming home I picked up Mum and take her out for a walk. We've just managed to reach home again when the heavens opened. Fortunately, there was just a bit of wind, so the balcony came away without leaking... so far. Let's hope it stays that way. *fingers crossed*
We then called the company who makes the walk-in bathtubs (or rather modulates the existing bathtubs into walk-in ones). They fixed the job for December 1, but they'll come and take a close look at the bath first. They're supposed to call again to fix a date for that. *again, fingers crossed*
We ate leftovers and I started making little pillow-cases because my friend Eenie promised me some lavender. If she can't deliver it, I'll simply make small pillows for the girl-children of family and friends.
I talked to my other friend, Elise, on the phone. She very hesitantly asked if I'd make gifts of Christmas cookies this year again; I assured her that I would. She has 5 grandchildren, an ailing father and a somewhat... complicated mother-in-law who's moved in with them some time ago. She needs all the help she can get, and I'm happy to take at least the Christmas baking off her way too busy schedule.
Then my friend Evie called. She was supposed to come over tomorrow but her eldest decided to dump his son onto her lap a day earlier than originally planned. Including a sleepover - the boy's very first one! So, our plans have been cancelled; too bad, she was actually invited for lunch. Ah, well, there will be other days.
And the final blow of the day: FF.Net decided to introduce even more "smart" changes. From now on, you have to re-enable your e-mail alerts every 90 days. I've done so, and an hour later got the same message. I've done so again, but I'm quite sure it won't take this time, either. FF.Net has been near unmanageable in recent time. Perhaps I'll simply give up on it - I've stopped updating a long time ago anyway. I'll just visit my favourites from time to time.
