Don't let the subject line mislead you: it was actually a very productive day, filled with tasks I had chosen for myself and that I enjoyed performing. So, let's see...

1) In the morning I folded and filled all 46 surprise boxes from yesterday. I'm up to 74 now. The minor goal is to get up to 100. The major goal would be around 120, for reasons that would be too complicated to explain (my "logic" rarely seems logical for other people), even if I could find the right expressions in English - for which I way too brain dead currently.

2) In the afternoon I've cut out parts to a few more felt Christmas ornaments I want to give a try: six-pointed stars for angels and five-pointed stars for Santas. Those will be for my own entertainment and for our own Christmas tree, so making them isn't urgent. In the process, however, I've produced some more felt rests, of which tiny little stars and even more felt baubles were made. Yes, I know. No, I can't help myself. There'll be photos, eventually.

3) Later on Mum and I went for a walk - a fairly long one for her. We almost got to the church at the end of our street, which has been her goal for a while now. Perhaps in a few days... if the weather cooperates. *fingers crossed.

4) In the evening I processed the grapefruits for the marmalade that will be made tomorrow (the fruit needs to rest for a night). That took about two hours and caused an unholy mess. But I have high hopes for the marmalade-to-be.

When I was done butchering the grapefruits and was no longer sticky with fruit juice, we had supper. Then my friend Evie called, which was nice. And now it's late evening again and another day is over. Why does time fly by so quickly?

Now I'm curious :D

Fingers crossed for fine days so your Mum will reach her goal.

Oh, it's just about how to get the full price (all of 25 Eurocents per box), despite the fact that in some boxes are silver apricot pits that allow people to take another box for free.

Exactly! I think I'd be okay with 120 or 122 but I'll check with Mum yet. She's the one with the head for numbers, having worked at a bank and as a book-keeper, respectively. I'm just a dumb language teacher (emeritus) who gets confused when the count goes over ten. *g*

It is a never-ending struggle. The weather is nice, we go out more, build up her stamina; then the weather turns, we can't get out, and we can start from square one again. *sigh*

You've had such a productive and busy day, indeed. Keeping my fingers crossed your mom will make it all the way to church next time.

You know her: she is a tough cookie(*) . It all depends on the weather.

(*)Actually, I think you're the only one on my flist still active on LJ who has met her in person.

Oof, yeah, it was a very long time ago (doesn't feel like it but man do the years go by fast!)

Yeah, she is very tough. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the weather will hold. And snow/ice come late this year, so she can enjoy being able to go to church for a while before it gets too risky

Well, I tore them into pieces, and since they were red grapefruits, you can imagine the "blood" bath in the kitchen. *g*

I had to smile at your 'sticky' comment. I only eat 'easy peeler' oranges nowadays, because I cannot stand sticky hands. That's another reason I rarely get my hands into a bowl of flour. I cannot bear sticky hands. My mum used to tell the story of how, as a toddler, I used to cry until she washed any sticky stuff off my hands.

I don't particularly like sticky hands, either, but given how much I bake I had to make my peace with them. ;)

Butchering the grapefruit sounds odd, but I´d do it, too, only to heap them in my husband´s muesli. There´s only one thing with grapefruits I tolerate: alcohol-free radler.

Your mother seems to do well, that´s a blessing! for her age and the injury she has suffered!

Glad to see your Mum is doing well, hope the weather holds. Luck with the grapefruit marmalade, wish I could try some!
