We had cleaning day again, hurrah! How I love it - NOT! Especially as I'm literally unable to catch up with the day-to-day keeping the flat in a reasonable shape between two such days. *sigh*

But at least - with the moral support of our cleaning lady - I finally managed to cover the tall, narrow side windows of the balcony with translucent self-adhesive foil. Yay! It only took me three years to muster up my courage. The results are far from pretty, with lots of bubbles and wrinkles, but the foil does what it's supposed to be: it filters the harsh sunlight fairly well. So, perhaps my reserves of sugar won't turn into caramel any time, soon.

We've finished the cleaning (and the putting things back into their places) after 2pm. I haven't done a thing after that. Too tired and brain dead to even work a bit on my craft projects. So it was solitaire on the laptop and some telly. I hate days like that, but they are necessary.

Mum insisted on having one — first just for the window cleaning, as I can't climb a ladder any higher that three steps, and then regularly. I was against it, originally, but in the meantime I had to realize that cleaning the flat according to Mum's expectations would be just beyond my strength. So now our lady comes every second week and we do the work together.

I'm so glad she convinced you of that, it would be a torment for you to have to do all that work on your own to her expectations. Even as things are, it is a regular torment.

True. Although "convincing" didn't enter the scene. She decided that it will be so, and that was it.

At least it's done with now and you get some peace until next cleaning day. But damn, yeah, not a fun day.

And so pointless... in two or three days the dirt will be back anyway. *sigh*

It really is an endless battle

I'm pretty beat tonight, too, but my meatloaf still has 20 minutes in the oven, gotta hold out a little longer

Glad you had moral support for the window stuff.

A bit of actual support would have been even better, but the balcony isn't deep enough for two people to fit into one narrow corner. *g*

That foil sounds interesting. I must look out for it, as my living room gets full sun for a large part of the day.

They sell it under the name self-adhesive wallpaper over here, even though it is not made of paper. But yeah, the balcony is a lot more bearable now that the windows got covered.

Cleaning is such a Sisyphus thing, isn't it? We did the kitchen today, and then Sis made a delicious dinner that undid so much of it.

Cleaning is a bit of a never ending battle...

I remember putting something similar up for my mother a few years ago — it also ended up with wrinkles and bubbles despite being very careful. I wonder if anyone ever manages to really get the totally smooth finish of the adverts?

Probably not. I can't even get it smooth on books or whatnot. But the stuff is really useful, even with wrinkles and bubbles.

Oh, and your icon is made of the win! Such deep truth in that statement!

Geez, the never ending battle of cleaning! It takes about three days for dust to cover the surfaces. So I have to be quick, to finish the last room before I have to start anew with the first one. And some days I deliberately 'forget' to clean, because I do not want to.
