My Ribisel-Topfenkuchen

... turned out terrific. It was worth getting up at stupid o'clock so that I could bake it without risking heat stroke. Look at this:



Unfortunately, while it was out of the oven by 8.15am, the morning was still far from over. I had to go to the remembrance service of a recently deceased colleague at 11am; and then to do some grocery shopping afterwards. By these temperatures. It was over 1pm when I finally got home, basically liquified.

In the afternoon, Gaby came over with little Benny (almost 3 by now), who was hugely impressed by my traybake. Of course, Benny is hugely impressed by anything that is edible, and more so if it's cake. The kid knows what's important in life. In any case, we had a short but enjoyable visit, the cake is all but gone, and the temperatures have finally dropped somewhen during the men's long-jump championship or whatever.

Oh, and I've finished the back cover of the songbook, too. I presented my guests how the finger puppets would work with the song. Benny approved and demanded a repeat performance. *g*

Tomorrow we'll have third grade heat alert. People are supposed to drink lots of water, stay in shadowed areas and avoid physical extertion. Has someone told this the poor athletes? In any case, I'm determined not to do anything but vegetating in front of the telly all day.

I have made banana loaves, gingerbread loaves, fruit loaves, as well as carrot cake, which is a bit more trouble!

It is ridiculously quick and easy to make: it was done within the hour, including the baking time. Of course, one has to take the butter (well, margarine in my case) out of the fridge in time, but other than that...

Isn't it now? This was the first such board we bought; Mum is quite fond of them, so she has quite the collection, which she displays on the kitchen table when it isn't used for baking purposes. :)
