... turned out very yummy, especially considering the fact that neither of us has ever made it before. No pic, because the results, as [livejournal.com profile] elwenlj put it, aren't Pinterest-worthy, but we've already decided to make the dish semi-regularly, and once it turns out pretty as well, I'll take a photo, honestly.

I also made an extended food run in the morning, stocking up on fruits (that were on offer), meat (also on offer) and everyday things that were running out. Unexpectedly enough, I still got some very nice cherries - those will go into the freezer again, and I'll boil the pits for those little pillows. Like these here:

I won't be able to make this many again, unless my colleagues have collected me some cherry pits during summer, but perhaps two will be possible, to sell them on the Christmas fair.

After lunch, Mum and I made a short walk around the building. We're trying to build up her stamina again; the less she walks, the harder it is for her, but during the extreme heat we hadn't dared to go out.

I haven't done much else today. Extended food run meant I had to get up early - don't laugh at me, [livejournal.com profile] noadvertising, for me 6.30 in the morning is early - so I was fairly drained all day. I even eschewed crap telly for a nap! So, no crafting today, just some crossword puzzles, beside all the housewife-y activities.

No worry, I am used to getting up later, too. If only there weren´t nine early morning shifts left this August :(

In my last decade as a school slave I worked permanently on the afternoon shift, which meant going to bed very late (night being the only time to get things done undisturbed) and getting up as late as possible. I actually get up at least an hour earlier now that I'm retired than I used to while still working.

I don't think I have ever eaten kohlrabi... it is not common here.

It is odd, how different eating habits are in different countries, isn't it? Kohlrabi is one of the most common vegetables over here, together with potatoes, cauliflower and the likes. I was actually almost 30 when I first heard of zucchini and its ilk.

There is only on 6.30 in a day, and it is usually accompanied by dinner.

The same here — although in our case it is a cold supper. Over here, the main (cooked) mail is lunch.
