My friend Evie dropped by today, to visit us and have a chat with Mum. The two go on like a house on fire. :)

Evie is also organizing a cook-out in her garden next week... well, roasting meat over open fire, actually. Only for the three of us: her, our art teacher Erna and me. I hope the weather will cooperate - I haven't done anything like this for decades, literally, and she said she'd prepare everything in advance, so that I wouldn't have to leave Mum alone longer than a couple of hours. She'd have invited Mum, too, but Mum can't get into cars any longer; or rather couldn't get out of them again. Which is unfortunate, as this way we can't get her anywhere, and she would enjoy some short trip from time to time.*sigh*

Other than that, I made the page bases for the (paper) baby book that also needs to be finished this month. I don't know what was I thinking when I started this thing! 6 double pages, plus 2 simple ones, plus the cover and the binding... At least I've made a great deal of embellishments in advance, which was time-consuming, detailed work. But I'm starting to seriously worry about deadlines.

I know how hard it is getting out of a car when older and less fit. But it is indeed impossible for people who had an accident like your mum had...

I wish my cousin's family still had that big car where the floor was elevated, so that one could get in an out so much easier. *sigh* We could perhaps transport Mum with such a one.

The outside meal sounds great.
What a shame your mum can’t go too.

I'm not sure she mourns the chance too much. Like me, she's not into outside cooking and eating. We prefer the house for such things. *g*

Getting out of cars is where I struggle when my back is bad. I'm OK getting in, with the help of gravity, but out is another matter.

Yeah, my stiff knees present me the same problem. Crouching or kneeling down — no prob. Getting up... now, that's an entirely different coup of espresso!

What a shame about your Mum no longer being able to get in and out of most cars. I don't know if either would help, but my mum had a handle that fitted onto the window frame of cars and also a swivel cushion — both fitted into a carrier bag and whichever of us took her out just picked up the bag as they worked in all our different cars.

Sounds practical, but we really don't get to use (someone else's) car so often, so she likely wouldn't agree to purchasing such things. Since we don't have a car — or indeed a driving licence — ourselves.

Thanks. There are things that can go wrong, like the weather, but I keep my fingers crossed.
