It is hot. My higher brain functions have gone into hiding. The only hours that can be used for anything are the early morning ones, but I just can't get up really early, unless I absolutely have to. Today I hadn't. So the day was pretty much wasted, with only a little bit of crafting and transcribing done. Then I was searching my HD for a file I was sooo certain would be there - I didn't find it. Perhaps it's another thing that needs to be typed up yet. That was an unpleasant surprise.

So we vegetated in front of the telly (save for the visit of the physiotherapist), then I talked to my friend Evie on the phone (she's on Grandma duty right now and accordingly exhausted), and that was basically it.

AO3 seems to be working again, at least for the moment. I was able to post the transcribed scene in the afternoon, so that is good news.

AO3 has been under a DDOS attack, another LJ friend posted. You shouldn't log in and create more traffic.

It's even been too warm and muggy in the early hours here ...

Errr... what exactly is a DDOS attack? The site seems to be back right now; and I'm permanently logged in, does that cause a problem?

I've looked at the weather forecast for you, and am appalled at the heat wave that promises to continue there. Sunday is forecast at 36 C 97F! Dear lord, let it cool off.

We have been getting up very early in the morning so we can open the windows for a bit to catch some cooler air. And today, a miracle: it was only 60F 15C at 6:00am today. We have left the windows open all day, and it will only get up to 80F 26C. Deliciously cool breeze in the shaded part of the house.

It's hard to get much of anything done when the heat is like that. Good for you for getting some transcribing done.

I'm glad to hear AO3 is back up. Good news indeed. I learned this morning it was under a Ddos attack since yesterday and their servers went down, but this afternoon they have somehow overcome it. So I have some stories to look up on AO3 for story recs in the Man From U.N.C.L.E. fandom that I can get done now.

Thinking of you. Take care, and hopefully find a way to cool off.

I still don't understand why someone would want to attack a fanfic archive of all things; not that I'd know what a DDOS attack is to begin with.

Cooling off would be nice, although we have the annual carpet cleaning scheduled for Monday, and since our wall-to-wall carpets are fixed to the floor, the heat would be good for them to dry quickly.

All I can think of is that it's done by smart people doing stupid things. Why can't they use their gifts of intelligence for doing good. DDOS, is bombarding a site with requests to open the site, like a billion little robots clicking on the AO3 site all at once, which is accomplished by a malicious computer program. Sigh. Why do people do this. So it's too much for the site to handle, and it crashes under the crush of traffic.

I was able to get all my Saturday and Sunday story recs scheduled for the month of August. It took about an hour and a half. Whew, glad I got that done. Now it's time for relaxation.

LOL, so that's why you have a heat wave: The cosmic plan for when to have the carpeting shampooed!

May you dream of shrinking to the size of an ice cube tray, and sleep in your freezer...

Thank you for explain me the thing with the DDOS. I've seen mentioning it many times and never knew what it means.

I do wish I could send you a few days of our weather to give you a break; for the past few days we have had temperatures around 18 — 22C with occasional short showers of rain.

Too hot stinks.

What I had mentioned earlier about the kerfuffle was something about AO3 not responding well/fast enough when people complained about hurtful comments on their stories. But I think there was bigotry of some sort involved. I'm not sure. I kept out of it as much as I could since it was drama. There were a few people on DW that were down in it, working on getting people on the board.

I saw a post from Ao3, saying that they were mainly back, but some peripheral functions are still blocked.

Am still pondering which sort of idiots might be interested in immobilising a place for fanfiction!

Just for the fun of making other people miserable, I guess.
