My first attempts at knitting haven't ended well so far. In fact, I ended up unraveling what little I had done... due to the attempt of undoing a couple of rows. I think my new knitting needles have to bear part of the blame. They're made of bamboo or something like that, and pushing them back into the stitches after I've unraveled the botched-up parts is sheer impossible. I'd go back to Mum's traditional metal needles, but they're at least a foot long and I find it uncomfortable to work with them.

And I was doing so well, too! I've practiced on a simple checkered pattern, and the first one was exactly what it's supposed to be. Then I did something stupid (still no idea what), ended up with an additional stitch, and everything went downwards from that point on. It doesn't matter, I'll try it again, perhaps on Tuesday or Wednesday. Tomorrow we're having our pre-scheduled cleaning frenzy and I doubt I'll be in the right mood to try something... adventurous again.

I was too lazy to go to the shops in the morning, which might prove a mistake. The morning was dry, if clouded, but it started raining in the afternoon (again), and while it seems to have stopped for the moment, there are no guarantees that we won't have the biblical flood next morning. Alas, I must go to the shops, since we don't have any bread in the house.

The flat is still ridiculously cold without heating. Yes, 21°C is cold when you work sitting down (crafts, writing, whatever), and I can only cook in the oven for a limited time of the day to make temperatures more pleasant. Tomorrow I made Mary Berry's chicken pasta bake, it was excellent, but the warming up effect only lasted a short time after lunch. Poor Mum keeps doing the washing up in several phases to keep herself warm(er).

We tried to watch the German version of the GGBO - The Profis, but is was so boring that we turned off the telly before it actually ended. There's hardly anything to watch on the weekend, really.

Aren't these ridiculous temperatures for May? Outside as well as inside! Today it was 18,6 degrees- in the livingroom. We have a fireplace, but who wants to kindle a fire in the middle of May? Well, we had to. Best thing is that next week we are supposed to get two days with ten degrees.

We've had cold Mays before, but at least we got some minimal heating. Now they think the building is insulated, no need for that. The problem is insulation can only keep in the warmth that's already there! After a whole month — and a fairly cold one — without heating, there's nothing the insulation could keep in!

Guess that's what would happen to me as well.

I like the Spring Baking Championship but a lot of the episodes are locked out now for some reason.

They'll probably offer the rest for extra payment later. It always comes back to money.

The regular show is lovely, so is the celebrity one. But the one with the profis... they work for 9 hours on a single showpiece, and that's shown for over 2 hours? Sorry, my life is too short for such a waste of time.

They show two hours of it? Definitely not fun.

I’ve been attempting knitting too, and it is disastrous. I’ve had to undo the knitting a thousand times. All I’m trying to do is knit a scarf in beautiful, soft wool, and between my extreme hand tremors and my innate lack of coordination it is not happening! I tried with bamboo needles initially but found it too much of a strain as the fibre got stuck instead of smoothly sliding off. So now I’m on metal needles and it is easier, but I still have to unravel after 10 lines or so because it is so messy. I don’t know if I can ever finish it. I thought changing colours randomly throughout might disguise the uneven stitches; I will try that next.

That sounds like a good trick! It's so sad that you can no longer do craft work at your heart's desire! *hugs*

I turned my heating on for about an hour in the afternoon the day before yesterday. Yesterday, however, I was gardening, wearing a t shirt. Spring weather is so unpredictable.

Actually, it's very pleasant on the outside (if it isn't raining). The flat itself is too cold for us, though.
