Current plans for the coronation party
May. 3rd, 2023 06:42 pmAs mentioned before, I'll be making the official coronation quiche (sans the beans that I don't even know and are most likely unavailable here; besides, we aren't really into beans anyway).
Then I'll make custard tartlets - the fake version, as I really won't use up 7 eggs for the custard, especially that you only need the yolks for it. I'll make Paul Hollywood's sweet pastry (with almonds added for the nutty taste) and make simple Vanillecreme aus der Tüte. Quick, easy and a lot cheaper.
I'm probably also making fake Victoria sandwiches, using Grandma's idiot proof sponge recipe that doesn't require butter and is feather light - much better for Mum's digestion. I'll only fill them with home-made jam and whipped cream right before serving.
I'd like to make one more thing, but the time and energy probably wouldn't last long enough. Ah, well, there are always daunty little sandwiches to make, right. Small ones that one can eat with one bite.
Aside from the party planning I also worked on my textile book project. Not as much as I planned to because my fingers started hurting earlier than expected. Stitching through 3 layers of felt plus double-sided tape is hard on the fingertips. *sigh*
Cooking-wise I made a carrot soup (a simple one, not
curiouswombat's classic) and a mixed salad to go with the leftovers, so that was relatively easy. I didn't want to overdo things, as tomorrow I'll have to go to the supermarkets at stupid o'clock to get all the things they promise to be on offer... plus a few things I'll need for the party. Wish me luck!
Update: Just in case there's another ignorant non-Brit out there, I've stumbled over this video on YouTube that summarizes the various events of the coronation in a fairly clear, idiot-proof way. Now I at least have some idea what I'll be seeing on Saturday.
