We're gonna have one on Saturday, yessss, Precioussss!

Not that I'd have any connection to the British Royal Family (and I don't even particularly like Charles), but a coronation is a coronation, and when the late Queen ascended to the throne I wasn't even alive yet, so I decided to throw a party for Mum and me to honour the rare occasion.

The whole thing will be shown on the telly, so I'm going to cook and bake in advance on Friday - only British stuff, of course - and we'll be sitting in front of the telly and snack away all day and enjoy the pomp.

We're gonna have high tea - well, coffee, actually, as we both hate tea. I know, I know, it's blasphemy, but we want to enjoy ourselves, hence: coffee. I'll make scones and some sort of biscuits and tiny sandwiches, as it is proper, and we'll take out our fanciest china coffee service, which is this one:

(It is called Victoria pattern because it was originally created in the honour of guess who? Right, Queen Victoria herself! I think it will be fit for the coronation party, eh?)

I'm still unsure about drinks, as we don't usually drink alcohol, and besides, it's unlikely that I'd find Guinness anyway. We might open the bottle of Almdudler I bought before Easter, which would be another blasphemy, but, as I already mentioned, we wanna enjoy the whole thing.

While we are watching and snacking, I'll think of all my friends in the UK and imagine having them with us at the table. I think it will be nice.

On more current matters, I tried my luck in another craft shop re: little bells. Alas, the only ones they had were 13mm, 15mm and 18mm in diameter - all too large. I need 6mm or 8mm ones, nothing bigger. Well, I have another two shops to check.

We also had choir practice today, which was a bit tedious - too much talking, too little singing. It doesn't happen often, but sometimes it happens. Ah, well. At least I've learned that Erica has another granddaughter coming in late August or early September, so that means another baby book in the planning. There's no rest for the wicked (crafter). *g*

I'm not a fan of Charles either, but like you, I wasn't born when Queen Elizabeth was crowned so I'll have the TV on to watch. It's unlikely I'll get another chance to see a coronation so I'm not passing up the opportunity.

Exactly! And no-one does pomp as professionally as the British! *g*

True. It's a nice thought that we'll be both sitting in front of the telly, watching the same thing.

Scones are yummy and easy. I'll try out a different one, I think. If I find a recipe I like, that is.

I didn't realize he hadn't had his coronation already but then I'm not British.

Have a great party and that's a gorgeous set of china!

Mum used to collect this pattern, back in the Stone Age. Today it's well beyond reach financially.

We don't get to see something like that often!

I think I'll make the official "coronation quiche", if they really post the recipe on RTL as promised. We both love quiche, and Mum is particularly fond of spinach, so it would be fitting, right?

I tried to send you the link to the recipe, but it does not work this way. But it´s easy to find if you search for coronation quiche. There´s even a video! I would not bank on RTL!

No prob, I've just googled it and found it. Seems fairly simple, except for the Saubohnen — I have no idea what they are, but I'm sure the quiche would work without them just fine.

Amazon UK has 6mm bells. If you want, I can order and then post them to you if you can't access them on your Amazon.

The problem with that is that since the UK left the EU, everything coming from there is taxed so shamelessly it costs twice as much as the items themselves. I still have two or three more shops to check. Let's hope I get lucky at some time before Christmas.

One of the local magazines offered a recipe for Coronation Chicken Pilaf (a riff off the original coronation chicken) and Sis made it last night, with cranberries for the certainly inauthentic (but who cares?) pomegranate. It was yummy :)

Thanks. It isn't really my thing, I'm not into over-decorated china, but Mum has been in love with the Victoria pattern for decades (quite literally), and saved money for years to be able to buy this set.

Lovely china, and a lovely idea! I'll most likely watch the highlights of the coronation, after all, it's a once in a lifetime event. Well, Queen Elizabeth's reign began the year of my birth, but, heheh.
