I was in town today - and not just in the supermarket next corner. I went to the churchyard where my grandparents are buried; well, cremated and set in a niche in a wall, but still. Next Sunday is Mother's Day here, and I paid Grandma a visit in Mum's stead, since she cannot.

Afterwards I went to the Allee shopping centre, which has a fairly well-stocked craft shop. Unfortunately, their focus has shifted somewhat lately, and while they keep a wide variety of painting and moulding supplies, the offer in things I need is rather poor. I'm a crafter, not a budding artist, I don't really need high-end artistic supplies!

Today I wanted to buy some small, round bells, to sew them on the hat of my Weihnachtswichtel. The craft shop I preferred (and that was closed a couple of years ago) used to sell them in various sizes, in small packages of 5 or 10. In different colours, too, so I could simply select the ones I needed. Here, they only had them in gold and silver, and only in two sizes, one of which was too large and one that was too small. They're also selling them separately, and a single piece nearly costs as much as a whole package used to in the other shop.

Needless to say that I didn't buy them. I've got 10 of the little gnomes prepared already for sewing, and I'm planning to do even more. I can't afford those sorts of embellishments if I want to actually sell the puppets on the fair! I'll give Rayher a try whenever I can get over the Danube to the other side of the city, and if they don't have them (and for an acceptable price at that), then the Wichtel will get sparkly pom-poms on their hats. I've got more than enough of those, bought at Kik in an attack of crafty madness, and sparkly pom-poms are pretty, too.

In the spirit of preparing for Mother's Day I then went to the Lindt shop two levels deeper (the escalators were randomly out of order, so it was not fun) and bought a big bag of Lindor chocolate balls for Mum. Spending money beyond the necessities is always good for morale.

Coming home, I worked a bit on my craft project and had a short rest, Then I made mushrooms with scrambled eggs for lunch, and we went for a walk for Mum. So, a busy day, and I'm adequately drained now. *g*

Ah man that's too bad about this craft/art supplies shop. Sounds like they really are going the way of high-end supplies. The pompoms solution sounds good, though, that will work as well. And with these being for Christmas, you still have time to maybe find supplies at a better price elsewhere.

I can look about for your bells on Amazon, but I have no clue how tiny they have to be. Maybe you can tell me, or send me a link?

They have a diameter of 8mm. As I said, I'll give Rayher a try; I have no idea where they can be found online. I haven't bought a thing online in my whole life. I'm such a Luddite it isn't even funny!

Maybe have a look at Amazon and see if you find the right ones!

Because I'm deadly afraid that I'd do something stupid that I can't undo afterwards. Like ordering tons of Viagra because I've clicked the wrong link. Yes, I know it's virtually impossible, but fear isn't rational. I'm like that with most computer-related things.

If you won´t find the bells you need for the Wichtel, you will tell me? Maybe we can find a solution! But a Wichtel without a bell is no Wichtel at all. The bell had a function in a story I read, like making those who´d hear it retreat. If I´d only find those darn Wichtel books! I hope that they did not end up in the waste paper bin!

I didn't know the bell had an actual function! I still have three or four shops I can check out — unfortunately, they aren't in close proximity, and it isn't easy for me to make a longer trip in these days. But I will; and if I don't succeed, I'll tell you, definitely.

Those Wichtel books sound interesting. I googled for stories on the Internet but didn't find any real ones, just tips for Wichtelbriefe and the likes. But again, I suck at googling, too. Never use the right keywords or whatnot.

I can imagine! Today I've found a sort I've been looking for literally for decades: milk chocolate filled with cinnamon and coriander cream. Yum!

That's too bad about the craft supplies. Can you ask them to order some?

I will have to assume then that it is a more difficult process in your situation... Amazon makes it SO easy here. Too easy!

Yes, they apparently are. I don't know much about them as they're mainly a Scandinavian tradition. They're called Nisse in Norwegian and Tomte in Swedish, I'm told.
