As I've told ya'll yesterday, we had to do the cleaning frenzy a day earlier because of our cleaning lady's personal problems. That wouldn't have been too bad in itself. But about an hour before her arrival I managed to drop a small pot of liquid frying fat (fortunately cold!) onto the kitchen floor. It not only soiled the fridge door and my entire clothing (knitted waistcoat, dress and leggings), it also spread very quickly. With the matching odour filling the house, of course.

So, the hour till the cleaning lady arrived was spent with:
- mopping up the spilled fat with the help of half a roll of paper towels;
- changing my clothes and washing the soiled ones;
- cleaning the fridge door;
- cleaning the inside of the fridge, as some fat spilt on its way out of it;
- soaking the knitted waistcoat in industrial strength bleach to get the godawful odour out of it... with mixed results;
- whipping up some breakfast in the middle of the chaos, so that Mum wouldn't faint from hunger during the cleaning frenzy.

After the actual cleaning was done, I stuffed my pre-soaked clothes into the washing machine. Louise the Elder graciously washed them; after which I've discovered some stuff clogging the drain... well, partly. With the help of a pair of tweezers, I spent another 30 minutes fishing disgusting stuff out of the drain, so that the water would run down normally again.

Needless to say that not much else was done today. Certainly nothing that would have been enjoyable or relaxing.

Well, dishwasher gel got it out of the PVC kitchen floor. As for clothes, several rounds of soaking, some bleach, and then a run in the washing machine.

I can't use bleach, the only solid white clothes I own are two bras and a pair of socks.

This is a very mild sort of bleach that can be used on coloured clothes, too. Perhaps not even worth being called bleach, although we also do use it on metal pots in which the food got burned.

It was disgusting. Especially the smell that I couldn't get out of my nose all day.

Cleaning out sink drains is not my favourite occupation, either.

Still better than letting them clog completely. I did that once, and when I attacked it with the pump I got a generous spritzer of the whole mess into my face. Ugh!
