... considering the fact that I didn't actually have to cook for today!

However, I had to fight the big pre-holiday shopping battle in the morning, and afterwards prepared quite a few things for tomorrow and for Saturday. Namely: the topping of tomorrow's blinis, the potato cream soup, the asparagus for Saturday's quiche and, of course, the fabulous cumin-and-garlic Easter ham.

I'm accordingly tired now; and tomorrow I'll still have to do some baking: the sponge for the Easter cake and the Easter pinza (an alternate to the hot cross buns). So tomorrow will be quite busy, too. And I'll have to do the decorations, too, as my friend Evie comes over on Saturday afternoon and I want to have a prettied up flat to great her.

All this practically ate my day, so I had to take a short nap later in the afternoon (interrupted by two phone calls from Mum's lady friends), after which I simply didn't feel like doing much else. Craft-less day, alas; although I did write two lines of dialogue, so... And I talked to Evie on the phone for quite some time.

It seems like people have been doing grocery shopping like crazy all day, starting yesterday..

I hope your Easter will be fabulous and a reward for all the work you put in preparing and baking and cooking!

It will be quiet as always — just how we like it. But we'll have Evie visiting, so it will be nice, too. :)

I hope your Easter will be relaxed. That ham sounds so good!

The only visitor we expect is Evie on Saturday, so yeah, it will be pretty relaxed as always.

The ham recipe is a really easy one. I've posted it to Pinterest if you want to check it out.

I use pre-cooked ham for simplicity's sake, but I cook and bake it again. It's delicious.

Oh it's with caraway and not cumin? Still sounds good, though. I don't use Pinterest though, so I doubt I'd be able to see it.

Just click on the pic to enlarge and you'll be able to read the recipe.
I never know what's the difference between caraway and cumin, sorry.

Oh duh - silly me, you're right. I'm such a tech-tard when it comes to social media platforms, haha!

No problem, it's all good! Caraway is "Kümmel" and cumin is "Kreuzkümmel". I don't know why it's called "Kreuzkümmel" in German since it's not even remotely related to caraway.

Oh, I see! Thanks. Now I'll just have to figure out what "Kreuzkümmel" is in Hungarian and I'll have them all put in their proper places. :)

I'm a techno-wheenie myself, which is why the only platform I use is LJ. Well, and DW too, but they work on the same principle, mostly. Being "slightly" obsessed with crafting is what made me learn to use Pinterest; fortunately, it is fairly idiot proof, or else I'd be lost on the sea.

Google translate tells me "kömény" for cumin, but that's not helpful at all since it gives me the same word for "caraway", hahaha! I don't know why, it's confusing. Caraway has a sweet flavor that's slightly anise-like, and is usually sold as seeds (or dried fruits actually). Cumin is usually sold as an orange-yellow powder and is usually used in Mexican, Indian or Middle Eastern dishes. Ugh sorry though - I was not meaning to nit-pick!

No problem. Hungarian kitchen knows caraway but doesn't know cumin, if I interpret your definition correctly, so this might be where the confusion comes from.

I went out for a meal last week and there was caraway in the pulled pork... it worked well, but confused my brain a little as I always associate the taste of caraway with cake from my childhood when 'seed cake' was still common when we visited older relatives — basically a madeira cake with a handful of caraway seeds added for flavour.

I haven't seen it used in meat dishes here, but that might be a regional thing since in Germany, small as the country is, there are big differences in regional cuisines. I've mostly seen it used to flavor rye bread, or sometimes in sauerkraut, so I associate it more with savoury foods.

The same is true for Hungary. When I first saw someone in GBBO use caraway in a sweet cake, I was completely bewildered. Here we use it for salty pretzels; and, as you said in rye bread, sauerkraut or beetroot salad.

I shopped yesterday, too. Then went to church in the evening so i won't feel too bad about not going today! I am only doing a couple of sponge cakes for Easter so will probably bake tomorrow.

Not going to church at present means that Easter crept up on me this year. I finally remembered to buy myself a little easter egg yesterday.

There are days when I am glad to be able to call in sick. I don´t want to be a participant in a shopping battle!
