... was very much like any other day, actually. Save for the not eating meat part. I did a lot of crafting in the morning, then I cooked lunch while Mum had a visit from her physiotherapist, then we watched some telly, then I had a phone call from my friend Evie, then I called my goddaughter who had birthday yesterday (which I'd completely forgotten), and with that the day was basically over.

On days like these I long back to the time before I had a fall-out with the Church (as an institution). The rituals before and during Easter are the most wondrous ones in the entire liturgic year. I miss them.

Sorry, but I completely ignore those stupid rules, since mum has died.

There is nothing to be sorry about. I don't really pay attention to the rules, either. But I do miss the celebrations. The most amazing experience in my life was when I was a postulant and we had this resurrection procession in the middle of Holy Saturday night, with torches in the darkness. I'll never, ever forget it.

I agree. My favorites are Maundy Thursday night vigil and Saturday night service (before easter).
I'm sorry you miss them.

So am I. Giving up cloistered life wasn't something I did easily. But in the end it was the necessary step to make.

That it was. Cloistered life in general was something that suited me quite well — except the narrow-mindedness of the people who were in charge.

There is something both awe-some and comforting in the rituals. Although, to be honest, the main ritual to start Lent in our family is the making of pancakes...
