... didn't turn out how we planned. I did make the pear compote. And the cauliflower-with-roast-breadcrumbs. And the cauliflower soup for tomorrow, since we never throw out the water in which the veggies are cooked - we make soup out of it. So yeah, I cooked three different things.

None of which got eaten. We had a voluptuous breakfast: our usual toast with cold cuts and cheese and latte - and two enormous slices of chestnut cake each, because it is so very delicious. And yogurt and müsli, of course, we always have those breakfast. Consequently, we were still completely full up around lunch time. So we opted out of having lunch; had coffee instead, two hours later, with - yes, you've guessed right! - enormous slices of chestnut cake again. I foresee that it will be only yogurt for supper!

I never assumed that our diet was particularly healthy. *g*

Crafting-wise, I've finished the Baby diary booklets... more or less. Booklet #3 still needs some decoration, which I can't do until we're certain whether Baby #3 is going to be a boy or a girl. But that's just one small element. I can now move on to making the actual page bases. About 12 or 15 of them, in 3 different sizes. That's gonna be long and tedious. But it can't be helped.

Tomorrow I'll have to leave the house as I have various chores outside. That's gonna take all morning. Whether I'll have energy (and the right mindset) for anything creative afterwards remains to be seen. At least I won't have to cook.

Oh, and we've got the preliminary estimate for our building for 2023. It seems that our common costs (we own the flat, so we don't pay rent; we have the common costs instead) will be raised by roughly 25%. Joy, joy, joy - but not really unexpected. *sigh*

It may not be the healthiest eating, but on the bright side, now you have two days worth of ready-made meals! Clearly this was all your clever plan and not at all giving in to the lure of chestnut cake.

25% sounds quite steep, though. What does it include?

It is for the maintenance of the building — a ten-storey concrete monstrosity with 200+ flats in it — the heating of the common areas, the cleaning of the common areas, for building reserves for future repairs and the likes.

Yeah, it sucks, but we've expected it. It would have been unrealistic not to.

A 25% hike! Wow, that’s a big increase. I read in the news that a worthy local charity that have been providing for those in need for years has to close down because their donations have dropped by more than 50% since June last year and they can no longer cover even their running costs. It’s frightening.

Wow! 25% is a lot. I hope your budget will not be too stretched. Those are called maintenance charges here and can be brutal. When I was looking to move, a few years ago, I kept finding flats with very reasonable rents, but the charges were almost as much again as the rents.

Aw I wouldn't be hungry then either, but the food will keep and leftovers are always great to have. How do you make soup from the vegetable water? Do you put anything into it?

I pureed some of the cooked cauliflower with the help of a fork, then added two Suppenwürfel for vegetable soup (you probably wouldn't do that), added some parsley and thickened the soup with some creme freche and flour.

(you probably wouldn't do that)

Haha of course I would! That sounds good actually, and a creative way to use that water (which has a lot of nutrients most people just throw away).

We always use the water in which veggies are boiled for soup. Mum loves soup very much. For her, a midday meal without soup isn't a meal at all.

I'm sure chestnuts must be healthy... I'd happily live on chestnut cake for every meal after breakfast 😁

We had delicious cakes at church. I cannot resist.
So sorry your costs are increasing.
