Okay. Everyone knows that I didn't like the LOTR movies, for a million reasons. But they are the only ones whe would ever likely get, so I wanted to buy the extended edition on VHS. Since I'm one of those Stone Age people who still don't have a DVD-player. I waited for the dratted thing for Ages. Now, today, Mum and I went to the Campona shopping centre, where I found one example of the EE. On two tapes, since it's soo long.

I was reasonably happy, as I wanted to finally see the additional scenes. I ran into my room, put the tape into the video recorder - damn it, it was black and white! @>>&@đg!!!!! Only the first tape, the second one seems to be okay, but that means that I'll have to go back to the shop tomorrow (a trip of at least two hours, when I should be cooking and decorating the dratted Xmas tree), have a fight with the shop assistants who never want to take back faulty wares, and if I'm particularly lucky, they won't even have another copy.

Anyway, Mum and I decided to do the washing and bake the Xmas cake, respectively. I wanted to make a Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (a very special cherry cake) - the Germans among us know that it's a rather... complicated task. Our gas oven is almost 30 years old and a little capricious. As a result, I managed to burn the cake in the 2.5 minutes I wasn't paying attention. So I had to scrap away the outer 0.5 centimetres before I could finish it. The kitchen looked like after a bomb detonation.

In the meantime, I started the washing machine, because Mum has religious fear of everything that has something to do with technology. But I was so stressed and upset that I fogot to put washing powder into the stupid box, so we had to run the program twice. Water and electricity bills will be happy about it.

Tomorrow, I have to prepare Saurebraten mit Serviettenknödel because I didn't feel up to the challenge to make the usual fruit-filled chicken and red cabbage (they take approximately seven years to get ready), decorate the Xmas tree (why did I have to buy one that is 2 metres tall?), go back to the shop and make a scene, assist Mum in her last-minute cleaning insanity and post the last part of A Dwarven Yuletide.

Ain't it beautiful to have a quiet, calm, contemplative Xmas? [/sarcasm]

If you didn't have all this happening, how would you ever recognize the holiday???? :-)

Can I come and eat at your house? That all sounds scrumptious. I'd even let you come and cook it in my kitchen.

How very right you are! :/

And yes, you're welcome to visit me any time you want. Unless you have the same deep-set fear from flying as I do. That ocean between us really is a nuisance. *g*

'Tis the season of abundant chaos. ;-)

I'm sorry to hear about the burnt cake, but glad to hear that you were able to salvage it. I think I should accompany daw for dinner, though -- afterall, we wouldn't want all that effort to go unappreciated.

I hope that Christmas Eve goes smoothy for you!

Catch a last-minute flight, both of you, there will be enough for everyone! :)

And a very happy Christmas for you, too.

Sorry to hear of the cake disaster. I wonder, hm, let me know of you have trouble getting your video tape replaced. I have a cunning plan to maybe replace it for at no cost.

Well, I did salvage the rest of the cake, it was just annoying...

And they did replace the tape - with another faulty one. So, on Monday I have to go back, and after that probably again, since they have a silly rule that you can't open the box and check the tape in the shop. *curses in Khuzdul, Rohirric and several Orc dialects*
