So, today was busy again. I went food shopping: partly for our immediate needs (i.e. bread, milk, yogurt and cold cuts), partly in preparation for Mum's birthday party. Canned pineapples and sardines can wait just as well in our kitchen cupboard as in the supermarket itself, right?
In the couple of days I haven't visited said supermarket, prices went up again. And I don't mean smoked salmon or caviar or whiskey. No, because one can live without those relatively easily. No, they pushed up the prices of bread and cold cuts again. At least I got the milk on sale because it reached its best before date today. But since we boil the milk anyway, that doesn't matter. It will be gone within days, for sure. We happen to love milk.
Plus, the cashier managed to scan in only one can of sardines (which were on sale already). Being the honest loser that I am, I went back and pointed out that I had two cans of the stuff (because they were on sale, obviously). She checked my receipt and said, no, no, it has been scanned twice. I thanked her, came home and let Mum check the receipt again. Mum, too, found only one can of sardines. Ah, well, I tried. Mum also discovered something else that I had overlooked: the cashier had only counted one cheesy bun, even though I had bought two, and both were clearly visible in the plastic bag. So, the shopping tour proved less expensive than I thought. At least the cashier won't have to come up with the difference, since I paid the exact sum the machine showed. It is still a bit odd, though.
In any case, I came home quite late (the crowd in the supermarkets was really thick), so we had breakfast at lunchtime and only ate leftover soup and the rest of the rubber rolls two hours later. *g*
On the crafting front, I was fairly successful. All nine planets of the solar system are cut out and fixed to the page base - including Pluto. Yes, I know that the poor ball of frozen rock has officially been degraded into planetoid status, but when I went to school it counted as a planet, and I'm not the kind of person who'd turn my back on old acquaintances, just because they've lost their former status. In my book Pluto remains a planet. So there!
Seven of the nine planets are sewn on, although some colouring is still to be done. I've dug out an astronomy book for dummies and checked the colour schemata, so I hope it will match, at least roughly. I intend to finish this page somewhen next week, even though for tomorrow a big kitchen experiment is planned, and for Monday the usual cleaning frenzy is scheduled. We'll see.

Date: 2023-01-07 07:06 pm (UTC)Yeah, bread and cold cuts keep getting more expensive. Grocery shopping was never fun, but it really has become an exercise in frustration. Pasta has tripled by now and just today I discovered that sugar has doubled again since the last time I checked, too.
Maybe these folks who bought 5 years worth of canned food and toilet paper during the first Covid shopping craze are now the lucky ones!

Date: 2023-01-08 02:12 pm (UTC)Same. Having my stash of baking supplies has been such a relief, I can only buy from the one store that still has cheaper prices or when something is on sale and use my reserves in-between.

Date: 2023-01-08 04:02 am (UTC)I haven’t been shopping since Christmas- first I had a huge health flare up just before Christmas, and then I caught Covid (for the first time). Thankfully te Covid has been mild as my chronic health concerns meant that I received antivirals asap, which I’m very grateful for, and also anti-inflammatory steroids. My son went shopping for me and bought a heap of gluten-free soups and that’s what I’ve been eating. That, and ginger ale and plain mineral water.
