Chapter 2: Allegiances has been posted to FF.Net. Tyr makes a deal with an old adversary and picks up an unusual passenger.

Thank you!

Actually, I came to Andromeda through fanfiction, myself. Watched the first two seasons (out of five) that were shown on German TV, but Kevin Sorbo as Captain Hunt just annoyed me too much to discover the other characters - aside from Tyr, that is.

Nietzschean culture is a fascinating thing, though - how to portay a race based on genetic manipulation and social Darwinism so that they won't come through as the ultimate a$$holes? OTOH, they come in hot packages, of course. *g*

Anyway, they do everything to make you hate them, but they are so hot that it's hard to hate them... Of course, as always in these sci-fi shows, the real background work is done in fanfiction. Or in other fannish genres. Think of the Klingon Dictionary, created by a lovably insane linguist. Or the novels of Diane Duane, who practically invoked Romulan culture (more canonical than that stupid movie Nemesis can ever hope), or the Reeves-Stevenses, who worked out practically every disconnected remark in TOS to part of a great Trekkieverse network. And so on.

For the Nietzscheans, I highly recommend you The Recreation of the Warrior by Kit Mason:

This is the story from where I adopted a few aspects of that culture, but it contains ten times as much (although the author actually manages to misspell the species' name. I liked the story idea, too, although I think in this case a little less sex and a little more cultural trivia would have been better for the story as a whole.

Well, that fic was interesting, but like you I found all the unnecessary sex a little distracting!

I also did a bit of surfing and found a bit about Andromeda, and I called Channel 9, the only one that runs sci-fi shows on Aussie TV. I was right, they don't run Andromeda, and have no plans too. A pity, because I'd to see a few shows.

The author obviously couldn't decide if they wanted to write a smutfic or something about Nietzschean culture. And their opinion about Dylan Hunt is rather... erratic. Nevertheless, I did find the fic interesting, too.

Too bad you don't get to watch Andromeda. The first two seasons were good average, save a few over-used plots. But from Season 3 up it became The Kevin Sorbo Show, they written out, then later killed out Tyr, so I completely lost interest in the later stuff.

The same happened to me with Buffy and Angel, BTW.

Hhm, well perhaps it's best I missed it then, as I'm not a Kevin Sorbo fan. How dare they kill Tyr! I went playing on the 'net and found some pics, and he was hot..very hot! Did you know Tyr in the Norse God of Justice and War?

I agree about Buffy particularly. A good show at first, and I enjoyed the first couple of seasons of Charmed and Angel, but all those shows have become pretty lame now.

I disliked Deep Space 9 and Enterprise actually. Not enough happened on a space station and the whole Enterprise thing was badly thought out. I mean the whole point of TOS is that they had the first star ship named Enterprise, and along comes this other thing, complete with a vulcanised 7 of 9 clone..bad mistake!

Interesting. DS9 is my absolute favourite of all 24th century shows. I dislike Enterprise, though. Albeit the five species of the Xindi are visually interesting. I keep watching the show, out of morbid curiosity, and I actually like Trip Tucker and Malcolm Reed (there's a lot of Tucker/Reed slash that's actually more than just sex), and I wish Hoshi would get more screen time. But as for the captain, his dog has more personality than he does. I'm not a dog person, but Porthos is cute..

Charmar, well... the show went to bloody hell as soon as they killed off Prue (although Shannen Doherty does make my teeth ache) and brought in the bosom wonder with her silicon-enhanced lips. Although Julian McMahon is absolutely hott. I love the guy, that's why I cast him for *my* Gil-Galad - no offence to Mark Ferguson fans, but for me, that man just doesn't look like an Elf.

Archet made a fantastic photomanip for me about Julian as Gil-Galad. It's in my Edhellond album, if you're interested.

You are right about Tyr. I think Sorbo had him written out because Keith Hamilton Cobb was younger and better-looking than him, plus the character had a lot of personality, unlike his own.

The best source for Andromeda-related information and absolutely gorgeous pics is Lady Maigrey's website, BTW. A lot better than the All Systems University, although ASU is the official website. See here:

And if you'd like to see how the guys talk to each other, there's a very good Andromeda Transcripts site, it's updated regularly. Tyr has some of the best lines, and so does Harper.

The sad thing is, the show had actually great premise and a wonderful cast of main characters, before it became Kevin Sorbo's private little monkey theatre.
