Small blessings
Nov. 28th, 2022 05:51 pm... and not-so-small ones, too! At least where health issues are concerned.
I had my long-overdue appointment at the dentist today - after a two-year break. It was a great relief to hear that all my teeth are in a good shape. All she needed to do was a thorough plaque removal, which wasn't painful, just a bit uncomfortable (and fairly expensive). In any case, my teeth got a clear bill of health, which is a relief. A lengthy procedure wouldn't only be hard on the pocket but also time-consuming, as my dentist's practice is in a fairly distant corner of the city. I'm so very glad it's done!
On my way home I stopped half-way at the roofed market, where I don't get to very often, and was lucky enough to get the crystalized ginger that I'll need for my baking frenzy. I also visited the Bioladen (sorry, no idea what it's called in English) and bought their last two bags of freeze-dried strawberries. Frankly, that was more painful than the appointment at the dentist's (price-wise), but if they had raspberries, too (alas!they didn't), I'd have bought those as well. Now I'm well-armed for the baking season.
I also went to the small local supermarket and to the Chinese shop, where I stocked up on such mundane necessities as kitchen towels, hand creme and toothpaste (I like to have at least one of each in store, so that I don't have to hunt for them when the one currently in use runs out), and I bought some small ham pasties for lunch, since cooking wouldn't fit into today's schedule. Needless to say that the price for those ham pasties we've been buying for years has gone up like crazy, too, so it was a modest lunch today, with leftover soup. But that's okay. Mum promised to make potato goulash with Wiener Würstchen tomorrow, yum!
In the afternoon the bug guy came - like every quarter year - to do some profilactic spraying, so today was busy, price-y and mildly exhausting. Nothing could be done that would require higher brain functions or fine motoric skills. Tomorrow. There's always tomorrow.

I totally agree about having a backup for when things run out.
