And that for the first time since January, too! H (Little Emma's grandmother) dropped in for a visit today - and to fetch the walnuts I got her for a very good price (although we gave them her as an early Christmas present anyway). She had perfect timing, as it had been foreseen that I'd bake today, so she could sample the goodies right away.

This was today's product: Sablés Bretons (Bretonisch Butterkekse for the Germans among us), as well as Financiers, with almonds, chopped pistachios and chocolate chips.

Needless to say that between the double baking session and the wonderful family time nothing else got done today. Well, I did work a tiny bit on the red helicopter page, but not much. Still, it was time well spent, and at least we had leftovers from yesterday, so it was all well organized.

It seems so, doesn't it? While in reality I only had two sorts of biscuits; just in different shapes. I was giving my multi-biscuit-cutter (the one bought at Lidl that can cut 19 biscuits at once) a trial run and it proved worth its price. And the dough for he Financiers was simply too much for the madeleine baking form, so I had to use some mini muffin forms, to. And, to add more variety — although not voluntarily — I burned some of the Sablés Bretons, as this was my first attempt at making them. But they were delicious, and they're nearly gone by now. Only enough left for tomorrow as afters.

I'm glad the biscuit cutter works so well! When I did Christmas baking I usually made one dough too, a huge bowl of sugar cookie dough. Then I'd use it for different things like Linzer cookies, orange-marzipan swirl cookies, iced sugar cookies, etc. It's just more efficient that way.

I actually like experimenting with various doughs — made over 40 different ones last year, after all — but not when it's just for us or for a couple of guests.

I think that's the amount of cookies I will bake this year...

I, on the other hand, am just warming up... *g*
Too bad we live so far apart, I'd be happy to do some baking for you, too. I do so for enough other people, after all.

They look so beautiful! And delicious.
I’m trying to talk myself into baking something this year…. My sister does a selection of Weihnachtsguetzle each year, like our Oma used to do. I’m the failure in the line of brilliant women, who can bake, sew, knit, mend a sock, crochet etc etc. My cousin not only bakes etc, she has a stall at her local markets selling hand-sewn teddies and knitted toys.

If I may suggest something easy: give sugar cookies a try. The recipe is very simple: one part sugar, two parts of butter or margarine, three parts of flour. Chill the dough for half an hour, roll it out, cut out any shapes you want and bake it. Afterwards, you can put some icing on them or whatnot.
