Meaning mine today. Nothing worked out the way I originally planned. The cake was a disappointment. I don't know if I ever tried this recipe before - there weren't any comments by me, so even if I had tried it must have been decades ago, before I'd pick up the custom of commenting on tried recipes - but I certainly won't do it again. A lot of work and a fairly bland result.

I couldn't cook the stuffed chicken I wanted to because my friend Evie brought me half a huge zucchini (and I mean one the size of a main water pipe or whatnot) and I didn't want it to go to waste, as zucchinis, too are ridiculously expensive. So I stuffed the thing with mincemeat mixed with an egg and soaked, two-day-old rolls, added onion and garlic paste and spices, spread it with cheese and baked it with the oven. It was delicious, even though the outer layer of the zucchini monster refused to soften, so we had to throw that part away, after all.

The stuffing turned out to me way too much, so I made little patties of the rest (22 in entirety), fried them in oil and let them cool. Later I froze them for next Saturday, when my friends will (hopefully) come.

I've finally sewn on the little bells, so the Christmas quiet book page is finished. That's another thing out of my hair. Next week will be busy again, so that's good.

I had a few phone calls today: from my cousin (Little Emma's grandfather), from H (Little Emma's grandmother), from my goddaughter (Little Emma's mum; even Emma and big brother wished me happy birthday) and my friend Evie. That was very nice. We then watched the German version of the GBBO and started packing. Tomorrow is cleaning frenzy again, and we have to put things up on the cupboards and tables and whatnot, so that the cleaning lady can have actual access to the dirt.

I really hope we can have this party — there are always so many things that can torpedoing it.
Thanks for the good wishes. :)

Thanks. I'm used to things not working out, so it's not a tragedy... just a bit of disappointment.

Things rarely go as we plan, do they? Still, we're still here, reasonably healthy, with a roof over our heads... one has to count one's blessings.

I'm so sorry that cake didn't work out, it had to be so disappointing. But! The stuffed zucchini sounds like a grand success! And the extra fried patties you created for future meals are going to be so yummy.

You are are a resilient woman, always figuring out a way to move onward and upward when things don't go as planned.

Good luck with your craft quiet book project, I will watch for a photo. I love seeing your crafts.

May your new year bring you all good things!

Zucchini is, basically, just filler stuff as it doesn't have any taste of its own. Good for adding texture to stir-fries and so on.

Oh no, courgettes, and a courgette monster at that! But the filling sounds interesting to me. I think i will give it a try- naturally without courgettes. The only courgettes I eat get drowned in garlic oil. Sorry for the cake tha did not live up to your expectations!

Most of all it was a bit lonely. I miss the only branch of family we still interact with, but the kiddos are having a cold and once again, they didn't dare tho bring their germs to Mum. We haven't seen the little ones for two and a half years because of this. :((
