It's time for population census again, and this time our glorious government decided in their eternal wisdom that it ought to be done online. Only those without an internet connection - and believe me, there still are a great many such people in this country - will be graced by a person who'll visit them and ask the same idiotic questions.

Since I'm a person with internet connection, I braved the online forms today. It was hilarious; I often had to ask Mum about dates because frankly, I didn't have the faintest in which month had we moved from Romania to Hungary, or in which month had I moved back from Germany. Why do they need the months is beyond me, and I just hope Mum remembered correctly. In case you are wondering, partaking in the "fun" is not voluntary...

In any case, I filled out the forms for us both, handed them in online and got the reply that they have been accepted. Phew! I'm almost afraid to mess up such things beyond help, so I'm truly relieved.

I also talked to my neighbour, the IT guy, and the iPad mini is supposed to come home in the next couple of days. It might not last long, the poor thing, being 7 or 8 years old already, so I'll buy a new one anyway, while keeping the old one for looking at photos and suchlike. I can't wait!

I did a great deal of crafting today, since Mum volunteered to cook (chicken soup and chicken paprikash). The Christmas tree page has developed quite nicely, although there are a few embellishments to add later. And I also chose the next motif, so there will be continuity. Yay! Continuity is good!

What else? I talked to my friend Evie on the phone, had a nap in the afternoon (interrupted by phone calls from Mum's friends twice) and printed out a few notes I'll need for the next choir practice. Fortunately, one fellow choir member (young, dynamic and technically savvy) scanned in all the notes we've used during the last 16 years, so we can simply go to Google drive and print out whatever we might not have. That is progress!

All in all, it was a good day. Now to watch the Great Canadian Bake-off!

Edit:
Aaand DW is acting up again! It won't let me comment, it won't let me log out and log in again - whatever I try, I got ACCESS DENIED! *insert curse words*

Edit #2:
Apparently, it's on and off - I don't know what's wrong with the dratted site!

Yeah, me, too. Especially for Mum's generation it is a real problem.

I wonder when we had the last census here. I always thought that it´s every ten years! I just copied my last entry to DW, and everything seemed to work fine- until I tried to write the subject in. Okay, DW is indeed acting up again!

Our last census was a nightmare for mum. She doesn’t have an iPhone or an android phone, has no internet connection etc. it’s like a huge segment of society is just forgotten! Infuriating!

I'm always relieved when I get something like this out of my hair.

They moved service providers, because the previous one had some serious political issues. They're still trying to fix it. If it's any consolation, I'm getting 403's as well. I find if I just go back a page on my browser and keep reposting the comment, it goes through on the third or fourth attempt. Annoying, but sometimes integrity comes at a price.

I just get panick-y whenever it happens that it might collapse entirely.

Wow, we still do our census here manually. Fill out a paper form and mail it back. Wish we could do ours online.

I understand that. However, there are still a lot of people over here — mostly elderly ones — who either don't have access to the internet or don't know how to deal with it, and they are hard-pressed to keep up with this brave new cyberworld.

They did a census here too, but I think it was via regular mail with the option to do it online, which I did. Only here and there will people be picked to be visited and asked the stupid questions and I hope I'm not one of them.

I also still have to fill out forms to do with the house and property since property taxes are getting re-evaluated but I've been procrastinating that. Ugh, it feels like I'm constantly being *bothered* by some governmental agency to fill out a bunch of forms and doing their work for them (like for the property tax thing. They HAVE all the info already so I don't know why I'm supposed to spend a lot of time finding out and submitting numbers they already know. It's aggravating!

Well, they need to pretend they are actually doing something, right? At least the Deutsches Renteninstitut or whatever they are officially called, saw the light this year and checked with the Hungarian counterpart whether or not I'm still alive. Until now I had to send proof (usually in the form of a photocopy of my Personalausweis) that I'm still there and there isn't some imposter who'd collect my German pension — all 57 Euros of it — on a monthly basis.
