Bug Safari

Today we had a bright, sunny hour in-between clouded skies and steady rain. Which would have been nice, hadn't it caused our six-legged migrants to creep out of the hiding. I mean those Southern relatives of the field bugs that have invaded our country due to global warming. They are disgusting, they get in everywhere and stink horribly when squished. And they can fly, too, which only makes them more annoying.

So today I declared killing time and swapped at least a dozen of them with a really hard-backed magazine. Then I took paper hankies and scrubbed the remains from the window panes and windowsills. Then I scrubbed my hands with industrial strength antibacterial soap to get rid of the stink.

(I remember, back at school, when I was still working, we had an hour free, and my colleague Erica went on bug hunt in the staff room. The school was really infested by the frigging bugs - she killed, I think, 26 of them within 45 minutes!)

In the remaining time I finished the winter night themed quiet book page. I think it turned out really pretty. Now I have to demolish some more pillow cases for the small metal rings that serve as their buttons, for I'll need those for the Christmas tree page. Which means sewing real, more useful buttons on the pillow cases, which is gonna be tedious - but necessary.

Yes, those ones. They're literally swarming on some days. *shudders*

Yes, I squashed one once, years ago, not knowing how they smell. Never again! They smell like rotten cilantro. Ugh!

Yes, but if you don't kill them, they'll come back!

I've fortunately only seen a couple in the house here and there in recent years. Now they get coaxed onto a piece of paper and chucked out the window. LOL
