I needed to use up some of my stored candied fruit, so I decided to give a recipe that uses baking powder instead of yeast a try. It wasn't a good idea. Never again! The things taste good enough, but are hard and dry like biscuits. So, next time back to yeast dough.

We also had laundry day, and I prepared the mushrooms for tomorrow's noon meal. It will be roasted mushrooms with scrambled eggs, rice and some leftover tomatoes. Yum! I bought the mushrooms yesterday, so I needed to prepare them before they'd shrivel completely - mushrooms are insanely expensive right now (and are unlikely to get cheaper any time, soon).

I worked a bit on the background of the quiet book page. Sewing on dozens of tiny star-shaped sequins is slow and boring work, especially without the necessary TV background, so I didn't finish the job. Tomorrow. There's always tomorrow.

The best part of the day is, though, that I've got my lazy rear into gear and started typing up some stuff for The Old Terror, the 5th installment of Sleeping Dragons, my Torchwood Season 2 AU. Alas, the chapter in question is still unfinished (although I've already started the next one and written the Epilogue), but I thought I'd type it up and put it up to [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib, available only for maintainers (=myself) until it's finished. It would mean less work later, when it's done in its entirety.

I also talked to one of my nice (ex-)colleagues on the phone, one that's also retired. She intends to come to choir practice, too, starting in October; that would be nice. Phone calls are useful to keep in touch, but seeing each other in person is magnitudes better.

Aaaah mushroom season has begun! I'm so jealous, can't get them for a good price here yet. Enjoy!

I don't know about mushroom season. These are the same ones you can get in the supermarkets all year — just a lot more expensive than usual, like everything else.

I could have wandered up into the woods to get mushrooms myself- only that I do not wander up into woods (way too strenuous9 , and, more important, I only like porcinis, which I would not find here, even if I wandered.

Good to see you progressing on the writing front and enjoying choir!

Not much happening on my end, there are a few storms in the Atlantic we are keeping an eye on, and as Autumn just arrived, I am already missing summer, even though the temps are still warm and the days nice and sunny. Just a bit depressed my favorite time of year is at an end.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully, the storms won't go your way.

How do you prepare the mushrooms?

I peel them, chop them, then fry some onions in oil, add the mushrooms, season them with salt, pepper and parsley, and tomorrow I'll add some beaten eggs.

I really like buttermilk biscuits made with baking powder and baking soda, but I imagine fruit might be too heavy for that dough to lift properly?

I love mushrooms! They freeze really well if you can't use them right away.

The buns were edible, if a tad hard, so it's no problem. I like mushrooms, too, but they're so expensive... like everything else. I only bought 6 of them for a meal; and besides, my freezer is full to its outmost capacity. *sigh*
