Sesame rings
Aug. 23rd, 2022 06:54 pmSince I'm not supposed to leave a house and we've run out of bread, I decided to try my hand on another Turkish specialty, namely sesame rings. We used to buy it every time we visited Vienna and loved them; and since my attempt at making Turkish flatbread was a full success, I thought "how hard can it be"? Which, as we all know is one of those famous last words...
I consulted the Internet about recipes and found a Dr. Oetker one that appeared fairly simple. I'm all for simple, and since this was a recipe that required sunflower oil and warm water (the latter meaning that I could spare the milk for tomorrow morning), I though it would go well.
No, it did not! The dough felt leathery right from the moment on when I put it together, and steadfastly refused to rise as much as a millimetre. I still baked it, because there still wasn't any bread in the house, and this was the result:

They look pretty, don't they? Well, appearances are deceiving. They are hard like shoesoles and can only be eaten after being halved horizontally and toasted. Even so, they are fairly horrible. I think I'm giving up on that recipe and will try one of the complicated ones next time. Because we still both love sesame rings and want the experience relived.
Also: Happy Birthday,
noadvertising! I hope you had a grand old time!
