We're still putting things back to their places and will most likely be doing so tomorrow, too. Of course, the fact that Mum always insists to wash all the fine china in these occasions doesn't help.

God, I'm so ripe for a vacation! Not gonna happen, obviously... :(

Putting things back in their places can be a pain in the rear end at times, I hope everything will end up there soon.

One piece of crap ends, the next one already hovers on the horizon... :(
I shouldn't complain, though. Life over here is still moderately good. Many other people can't say the same.

I agree with you, life is quite good here as well and I enjoy it. Many others are not able to do that.

Wash it? Why?

Because they apparently collect dust in the cupboard. Don't ask me, I find it unnecessary, too, but there are some battles I just can't win. So I save my strength for the really important things.

Picking your battles definitely works for elders, as well as children.

Sorry to hear you guys are going through all that — the heat, the pipes, and the cleaning. I've heard Europe is experiencing record heat waves, quite serious. I guess we are lucky in a way. We've had record rainfall for the month of July and so far non-stop in August. We've been under flash flood watches. I'm thankful no hurricanes so far, although the worst months for them are August and September — keeping my fingers crossed. I wish there were some way to send the torrential rains we are having your way. Hope relief comes soon.

Simple, normal rains would be preferable. Floods aren't any better. I hope the hurricanes won't hit you too hard. *hugs*

I loathe house work — all of it! Except for washing dishes, I’m always happy to wash dishes and don’t mind that our current house doesn’t have a dishwasher. I have no idea why I don’t mind washing dishes — could be the view out the window, or the way I can listen to music or audiobooks. You’re very patient with your mum; I can only imagine the clashes I would have with my mum.

I'm trying to be patient. She's beyond 90, I won't be able to change her mind anyway, and fighting all the time isn't really an option.

Me, I hate washing dishes with a passion. Of course, our kitchen sink doesn't look towards the window... We don't have a dishwasher, either; what would two aging women need one for? Besides, we waste less water this way.

There's a lot of china in our cupboards that has need of cleaning. I hate washing china. It's so fragile, and I am so very clumsy...
Life feels so very boring at times (except for shopping, when it's Oh my God-time when seeing the new price tags). Vacation would be nice, especially for you, because you have a lot of things to cope with!

I would be deliriously happy if I could escape for just a single day. Of course, I wouldn't have a moment of peace, worrying about Mum, even if i could find someone to stay with her for that day. As my friend Erna says (she has a father of similar age), no matter how hard an ersatz person tries, they just can't know how we do things what would work and what wouldn't.

I find washing china just on principle unnecessary. In the rare occasions we actually do use the stuff we need to wash it again anyway, as the dust doesn't need a whole year to collect, so what's the point?

I love your Mum, but sometimes I think she may need to loosen up on the, 'perfection' thing. <3

I love her, too. But if 90 years weren't enough to develop a more relaxed attitude, she won't do so in the near future, either.
