I've moved all the china from the living room to the kitchen, so that the cupboards could be moved without the added weight in order to clean the carpet under them. Tomorrow the DVDs, books and video tapes are on the moving programme. The corridor between our flat and that of the neighbours' will be quite full... which isn't allowed, in theory, because of safety reasons, but I'll move everything back as soon as the carpets are done. We simply don't have the space to put the stuff, and a few hours ought to be okay.

Also, I'm planning to unsubscribe from the one or other LJ. Nothing personal, it just turns out that a few people I've subscribed to during the last friendzy and I have too little common interests. So, if you get a notion from LJ that I have unsubscribed, don't take it as an offence - I just need to declutter my Friends page.

We only had a fitted carpet in our bedroom a long time ago. Hubby replaced it by laminate, which is easier to clean. I never regretted it...

I imagine, but we are not up to such a challenge. Not anymore.

It has its own rhythm and there is little we can do about it. As it's said often in fanfiction: "it takes as long as it takes".

Moving and cleaning is such a drag, isn't it?

Good luck with it! There is a great temptation to shampoo around the furniture — after all the floor underneath it doesn't get dirty... in theory. But we know it is not really the answer.

Once a year it just has to be done properly. Alas. :((

Thanks. The cleaning itself isn't the problem; the guy who does it for us finishes with it in two hours. But the packing before and after takes two days, each.

Cleaning/sorting in small spaces is a pain. I'm fortunate enough to have a craft room that I can dump in if necessary (especially since I decluttered a lot of furniture). Technically, filling an exit area is a 'No', but what are the odds of you having an emergency in that few hours window? Risk assessment-wise it works for me.

Part of the stuff is already back on the balcony, the floor of which I've just cleaned. The rest (books, videos and DVDs) are in strong plastic bags and can be yanked back into the flat in no time. The only problematic item is a small, round table, but we hope for the best.

That's what I call a thorough cleaning! I hope it all goes smoothly.

It usually does. I just hate it like the plague.
